Why is Sylvanas so powerful?

Enter Sylvanas Windrunner:
Saurfang? Nope
Anduin accompanied by Jaina Alleria and King Greymane?Nope
The Nelfs of Teldrassil?Nope
Bolvar Fordragon as Lk?Nope
Honestly? Because she’s powerful? The Lk didn’t get a SINGLE hit in.
The Lk looked to be on the verge of tears. Is he still level 80?
We waited 10 years. Just because the Lore has made her strong this is not good storytelling.
Mar·y Sue

noun

  1. (originally in fan fiction) a type of female character who is depicted as unrealistically lacking in flaws or weaknesses.

“she was not a ‘strong woman’ so much as an insufferable Mary Sue”
I agree this feels like political pandering.

I enjoy watching Sylvanas in her form fitting garment.
And Patty Mattson is awesome.

I wouldn’t really call her a mary sue just for that, there’s an actual reason for her newfound strength, her pact with the Jailer. Right now it’s supposed to be a big question mark in the story how she got so strong. It’s a mystery and mysteries are good. We’ll find out the answers to it throughout the story of Shadowlands.

Even Bolvar was never the top of the food chain, there are older and stronger things out there than him. And Sylvanas joined one of them.

Cause the writers of the plot come from the “Jam the square peg in the round hole no matter how hard you have to force it to fit” school of writing.

It’s because she’s the only NPC in lore that knows how to breakdance.

We waited 10 years to see the Lk fight. The Lk commands the ability of frost and shadow and apparently fire now, and still couldn’t defeat her, in fact he was left crying on the floor. A disappointment to people like me who started in Wrath.

Power from Jailer. Thought that was common knowledge lol.

I mean… Sylvie is older than bolvar already. He got burnt, put on a hat, and sat on a chair for 10 years. I don’t like her story, her power seems silly, but Bolvar has never been shown to be a powerhouse…

Was there supposed to be a fight? People always anticipated Bolvar coming back at some point, but I don’t think it was expected that he’d be in a duel against Sylvanas or anyone.

And if he won then it’d negate this whole expansion so he had to lose.

Fanservice obviously.
Hot chicks in skimpy clothing who are super powerful sells well.

She’s not a Mary Sue, she’s a power fantasy. Mary Sue would mean she’s perfect and there is a lot to indicate she is not viewed as such.

She’s wearing immortal power armor though and I have lost all interest in the game’s narrative because there’s no tension or stakes if she can just effortlessly escape EVERY situation.

Seriously she just poofs away from two different armies and then defeats the entirety of Icecrown Citadel. A 40 man raid that took us all of wotlk to prepare for.

The story is ruined until she dies or is written out. Developer favorite that never loses.

You do remember that they didn’t actually fight, right? Anduin had that stupid idea that she might surrender and basically let her do whatever she wanted.

I’m not sure how this even applies. She beat Birdman because Saurfang intervened and she burned the tree with catapults. She ordered it but it had nothing to do with her power, unrealistic or otherwise.

If you’d bothered to pay attention to the story for the last two expansions, you’d know why she’s so powerful.

Came to point this out.

Mary Sue’s are devoid of flaws. Sylv has plenty. She’s been secretly powering up since post Wrath so her getting so triggered by Saurfang and finally revealing her powers is not a mary sue thing.

No, no you wouldn’t.

It isn’t about Sylvanas to the writers, it’s about Women Vs Men. Turns out politicizing a franchise ruins the story.

Heh, in the lore probably not. But in game he sure could solo some dragons back in the day :relieved:

Oh, so in Legion and BFA they don’t show her making pacts with extremely powerful beings, and death gods of Azeroth? Hmm.

She’s being empowered by a portion of all the souls she’s been sending to the Jailer. It was kind of the point of her whole arc.
