Why is 'switch flight style' cast so long?

I didn’t play all of DF so was there ever developer feedback for why this cast has to be so long? Was this being abused in some way? Couldn’t they make it short just in open world if that were the case?

I use dragon flying the vast majority of the time but there are situations I like the old flying mode. Seriously, what’s the harm in making it a more reasonable 1-2 second cast?

I think it’s basically like swapping specs. Might be some sort of backend thing to change the mounts and system and it just takes that long.

Nope. Druids were able to switch instantly all of dragonflight. We could be on our dragon mounts and then turn into bird form and stop on a dime by switching into static flight form.

And it felt good. You guys have no idea what we’re missing.

Just more friction for your friction-based gameplay.

If I had to guess, it’s so people just stick with one flight style instead of switching gears between them all the time. But the system we had in dragonflight was better, where you could remount a non-dragon and go about your business.

That sounds better for sure. So they COULD allow you to have dragon flight on some mounts and regular flying on others. I think a lot of people would use both flight styles regularly if it were so easy to switch.

Nope. Cause its instant swap whe you do the dragon racing wqs.

Its to deter you from using it. Blizzard doesn’t want you using legacy flying, only dragonriding

Flight form wasn’t dragonriding enabled.

I played in DF.

It’s yet another way for these obstinate devs to get you to Skyride more, by punishing you with a completely unnecessary (and arguably vindictive) 5-second delay every time you want to be able to fly without worrying about managing a resource and actually land exactly where you want to.

Does it put you on a different mount? I’ve never tried this.

Exactly the point. I don’t think you’re understanding. We could use a dragon riding mount and then instantly switch to static flying by turning into a bird mid flight and midair. This let you switch the styles instantly, and stop on a dime as a result.

When dynamic flying was added to flight form we lost that ability, and we now have to channel for 5 seconds like everyone else.

There’s no coding limitation because druids were able to do it for 2 seasons.

It’s purely a design choice. The reason is subjective, perhaps they don’t want players to feel forced to constantly change it.

Yes, it puts you on one of the DF customizable mounts, just like the DF races did. They didn’t change that aspect of it and yet they took the time to utterly gut the amount of gold the purse contains.

Probably some pvp thing but I would like swapping specs, flight style, and talents to be much quicker.

No, you’re the one that doesn’t understand.

Only dragonriding mounts were dragonriding. All others were static flying. There was nothing to switch between with those mounts. They were all separate.

Now, almost all static flying mounts can also dynamic fly.

There’s a difference between having two separate mounts and one that swaps between.

So the system is separated for that.

This is Exactly what i did prior to the “Every mount dragon-flies” update. Iʻd have a dragon-flying mount and a static flying mount on my keybinds and swap as needed.

It’s awful, and it did have a quick switch mode towards the end of Dragonflight. It’s especially bad if a war crate is dropping and I’m standing there ‘summoning the spirits’ to switch flight mode. Seriously why they gotta be fancy.

Now I wonder if several deaths on the Dawnbreaker could’ve been avoided if this was an instant cast.

It did not. It had the ability to use a static flying mount and a dynamic flying mount. The mounts were all separate back then.

So long?

It’s five seconds.

I know folks have a short attention span these days but seriously?!!

It feels like forever when you want to get to a crate. Not a fan.
