We are in 2025.
We still don’t have a new relevant ret paladin with a huge two handed mace.
We still don’t have a new relevant orc blademaster.
Jaina and Khadgar are still the only relevant mages, i know theres more, but they are not relevant.
Illidan is still the only relevant demon hunter, why we don’t have a demon hunter leader to be at horde or alliance leaders side?
Blizzard made a lot of important Death Knights but for some reason NONE of them are relevant. Bolvar had potential but blizzard obliterate him through sylvanas cringe danuser stuff.
I’ll consider Lor’themar as a “new” character, but blizzard did not develop him, what he is? a ranger? a survival hunter? both? whats his abilities?
What new characters can Blizzard develop?
Iridikron? Faerin? Prioress Murpray?
Compare them to Kael’thas, Kel’thuzad, Arthas, Illidan, Grommash.
Downgrade is not only significant, it’s an abyss. New characters are so bad.
I know some of you will say “but MMO story is hard to develop”, but this is false, thats a lie.
We had Dragonflight… whats developed there? Iridikron and non-titan influenced dragons? what else? 2 years of nothing, blizzard can’t make new characters. This didn’t happen because its a “MMO”.
Blizzard already developed Ga’nar, a single chain quest that surpasses many expansions in lore quality. You CAN make decent character in a short window of time.
Why its so hard about that?
Can’t you make a new orc, put a scar on his face, a big pony tail and give him a huge weapon, so he can kill a huge Anub’rak-like creature in War Within? Just like Grommash did to Cenarius and Mannoroth? Why this is impossible?

They probably figure everyone tears apart every character they try to introduce… so just stick with the ones that have been sufficiently torn to shreds already.

Have you been reading the dialogue since SL? They don’t have anyone in the building capable of what you’re asking for.

I do miss me some big, burly, testosterone filled MCs screaming into my face. I miss morally grey areas and unsavory topics.
I’ve been reading many of the WoW novels as of late, and it’s refreshing to read about war and blood and fighting. I have been checked out of the retail storyline since early SL.
War is a narrative that can always be pulled off somehow. We see it in real life every day, parts of the world in a constant state of tension. WoW feels like Candyland now and it’s lame. They’re dancing around sensitive feelings and it’s sucking the life out of the story.
I say all of this as a Gen Z female too - zoomers ain’t fans either!

I think it’s them that tears apart every character they introduce.

You are the type that thinks characters can only be good if they are complex. I can see it, i can smell it, i can hear it.
You are weak intelectually.

WoW lacks a bigger threat. What made early stories so great was not only the prevalence of good characters, but also a reason to fight and survive. A reason for the strong to rise up and take charge. Demons are gone, Deathwing is gone, the Scourge threat is contained, everyone gets along now. Blizzard’s attempts at making bigger enemies like the Jailer and Xal’atath have been so piss poor it’s laughable. I mean it’s literally laughable, both of those “villains” are jokes that nobody takes seriously.
They are attempting to set up a bigger threat with Xal’atath, but are failing badly (so far). She’s too aloof and constantly ducking in and out of the storyline, leaving us to deal with her pawns while she cooks up some unknown grand scheme. There’s no intimidating, no attachment, no motive here. I know this is part 1 of a trilogy and there is more to come, but typically part 1 is supposed to hook you and I am not hooked. ZZzzzzzz

You can appreciate the irony of you being unable to spell the insult you attempted to use, yes?

youre the kind that eats crayons because you swear you can taste the colors arent you?
Your main characters that are the vehicle for the story have to be engaging and somewhat complex or else the story falls apart very quickly. You can have simple characters but they have to interact with the story in a complex manner.

Sometimes simple is great. You don’t need a character with an intricate, tragic, detailed backstory. Humble beginnings are cool. Basic lifestyles are cool.
Ironically, Broxigar (the character OP is clearly named after) was one of the simplest, yet most badass characters in the whole WoW universe. He was your average orc working under Thrall, thrust into this crazy timeline and ended up face to face with Sargearas, going down like a warrior. Brox didn’t talk much, he didn’t have much to say. He was constantly fascinated by the others around him. Yet he is one of the coolest characters, imo.

having a destiny defining moment or duty thrust upon a simple character is very satisfying to read and interact with. Broxigar sacrificing himself to wound sargeras with an axe made of living wood was just a chef’s kiss moment.

Has Blizzard ever really made a new decent character for WoW?
Anyone previous was from the WC games.

thats because of who wrote those characters and those people are now all gone from Blizzard.
But they werent 15 years ago?
Not only was his climatic exit noteworthy, but his interaction with the night elves and other races demonstrated how open-minded orcs had become after their years of war with other races. They were no longer angry, bloodthirsty, warmongering brutes. He was kind to Tyrande, willing to work with Malfurion’s weird magic, and cast his faith into the human-dragon Korialstrasz.
He is a perfect example of “simple character that interacts with the story in a complex way”. The problem in modern WoW is that we do not have a complex story. It’s a constant cycle of irrelevant race has issues with X thing so we go help them. Yay, we saved the day. And the cycle repeats. It’s stale.

Thats false.
Characters can be good being funny or simple.
This idea that characters can only be well developed if they have emotions and conflicts is a modern thought. We all know the quality of modern characters compared to the characters that built the franchise.
