I dont get it, Slam has been added and removed and changed so many times when it comes to fury warriors and rarely brought any value to the builds over the years other than keeping you GCD capped.
Realistically Fury never uses it, and Arms rarely uses it, it’s just a filler and rage dump, and a rather bad one at that.
Slam is now the primary rage dump for Arms now in single target. No more Whirlwind and Thunderclap weaving. With changes to the arms tree for TWW you’ll be pressing it more frequently than in DF.
Actually we do now.
However it’s only in pure ST situations where you don’t have any Whirlwind talents.
Slam no longer has a rage cost and it deals higher damage than Whirlwind and since neither of them generate rage Slam come ahead in those pure ST situations.
That’s disgusting to see.
Yeh but its just a bad button to press because theres nothing else to press, for fury anyway.
Yup slam stocks are up. Buy slam.
Imo, arms feels really fun and is in a great place.
Eh, the only time’s you’d use it is if you don’t have any cooldown’s to press, you’re also out of RB charges and BT is on CD, it does not happen often and honestly your alternatives are to not press anything(bad) or press Whirlwind(worse damage).
Yeah it is a GCD filler at best but at least it’s better numerically than Whirlwind.
I shared a Macro to the Warrior Discord earlier that puts T-clap(for Thane), Whirlwind and Slam on the same keybind to make it less of a hassle to rebind between talent changes.
#showtooltip
/cast [known:436707] Thunder Clap
/cast [known:280392] Whirlwind
/cast Slam
It used the Known conditionals to verify what ability it should be casting.
The original conditional for Thunder clap was Thunder clap itself but it was changed to the Crashing Thunder hero talent as per Archimtiros’s recommendation in case you have to path through T-clap in the class tree.
The Whirlwind conditional is Meat Cleaver.
If neither of those talents are learnt then it defaults to Slam.
Why is this btw, is it because Slam hits harder now?
More that every ability that isn’t MS or Execute is now a flat 20 rage, making it the most rage efficient single target ability after the buffs it recived with pre-patch.
The main reason we used to weave Thunderclap and WW into our rotation during Dragonflight was that they had large rage costs that we could easily satisfy due to our overblown rage economy, while maintaining MS’s CD. This allowed a greater benefit from Anger Management and Test of Might.
With everything costing 20 rage now though, there’s no benefit to pressing those buttons when there’s only one target.
Well explained, thank you
Imagine if slam got buffed to have a cd and actually do good damage. Imagine if it gave rage as well. A fun button to do damage and give resources when needed.
Rename it heavy slam.
I feel like Demolish sort of feels this niche. It has some jank sound effects, but it absolutely trucks for damage.
That’s a good point. Just sucks being tied to a hero spec. For sure feels good though.
You mean Onslaught?
Which requires a talent. I meant something that was just baseline for all 3 specs would be an improvement over slam just existing as it is now.
It isn’t needed, but figured slam is so boring the way it is now. Changing how it works could be interesting to add something new to all 3 specs.
As a last resort filler, it doesn’t really need to be interesting - the last thing you want is for it to become more important than the other abilities that are supposed to be prioritized.
For Fury, generating a token 5 rage to help build up to the next Rampage would be plenty, though Arms is a little more concerned due to the potential to use Slam back-to-back-to-back during unlucky no-proc streaks. In this case, something simple, like reducing Mortal Strike’s cooldown or even having an increased chance to trigger Overpower would probably work fine.
I believe I have a solution for Slam.
Give it the charge shoulder hit animation/sound effect and it wil immediately be more fun and engaging with no other changes.
I do… It’s simple, really: Blizzard is a bunch of Firebats! Now just hear me out for a second here!
Blizzard: “Yes?”
Players: Hello, is this thing on?
Blizzard: “You got my attention”
Players: What’s the use of Slam?
Blizzard: "Slammin’ "
Players: We want Slam to be improved
Blizzard: “You got it” - they add Slam talents
Players: You’re just burning down a great game
Blizzard: “Let’s burn!”
Players: Stop killing this great game with horrible ideas!
Blizzard: “Is something burning?”
Players: We give up, Blizzard, you win, do what you want
Blizzard: “Haha, that’s what I thought”
Players: I’m out, bye - leaves
Blizzard: “Are you trying to get invited to my next barbeque?”
…
Blizzard: “Nothing like a good smoke”
