Why is Silence not Baseline (Confusion?)

Just listing a few things that make no sense to me with this class.

  1. Has to waste a talent point on an interrupt (45sec)
  2. Has to waste a SECOND Talent point to give Silence a regular CD (30sec)
  3. Has to waste ANOTHER Talent point to have mind spike (Voidweaver)
  4. The Priest class does NOT have a Brez (Combat Res), Why? Thematically, the priest would have the best brez on the shortest cd. Paladin has one yet we don’t? How?
  5. 20 sec CD on Shadow crash, our only source of AoE w/Psychic Link. Shadow crash does not do damage. It should be baseline, along with its ability to apply dots. 10-15 sec CD is more reasonable.

What’s going on? It’s like there was theorycrafting in the backrooms on how to hamstring the class. Please for the love of god rework this class next. I don’t think our healing specs are having that great a time either but it’s frustrating asl to have a 45 sec interrupt.

You’re preaching to the choir here my friend.

Most priest players are hoping for an overhaul, not just tweaks we’ve been receiving lately.

For shadow my recommendations would include making Shadowy Insight baseline, and removing the second talent for shadow crash giving the DoT spread and just re-integrate that into the core of the spell. Give Spriest another AoE option because having to set up is getting harder and harder to do. Like they could have kept mind sear but instead have it “flare” up our DoTs on our targets or something…IDK.

I mean…Aff gets Vile Taint and can just burst. so i don’t see why we can’t have the same capability.

There is certainly work to be done, but all we can say is wait…And hope we get our time

Paladin Hero from WC3 has his spell Resurrection (Ultimate): Brings back to life the corpses of 6 friendly nearby units. The spell will choose the most powerful corpses to resurrect if there are more than 6.

So thematically, it makes sense for Paladin to have a combat rez.

Priest class fantasy is heavily influenced by Angelic themes aka Angels. The Priest Class Crest clearly shows angelic wings and a Halo.

So with that being said, it seems like some form of combat rez would make sense thematically for Priest as well.

Turn yourself into a Spirit Healer and then people can release and be revived instantly at your location while it’s up or call down an angel or something lol.

Blizzard never spent real time working on priest - they just slapped it together, sharpied in some revisions 10.1 and 10.2, and called it good.

Silence is not baseline because Blizzard doesn’t want priest to have a kick because of PvP, so they put it into the shadow tree to make that possible.

Psychic Horror and Last Word come at the cost of damage because Blizzard also doesn’t want priest to have CC because of PvP.

Mind Spike (and Dark Ascension) exist because Blizzard decided that paying lip service to people that wanted WOD shadow was better than spending time designing the spec and just threw it in there as a “choice” with no regard for the ramifications on the spec or the talent tree. Why satisfy anyone if you can disappoint everyone?

Paladin got a battle res in Dragonflight instead of priest because of PvP.

Shadow Crash is functionally Vile Taint’s sibling, and it pays for its shorter cooldown and lack of resource cost by feeling terrible to use. Blizzard decided to make things very complicated by making two different versions that both suffer usability problems rather than make it hit instantly like every other ground target AoE.

All these things are the way they are because Blizzard simply doesn’t think about priest and its place in the game; they think about some classes (mage, paladin, warlock, for example) a ton, and some classes (shaman, hunter, rogue) less than they should, but the don’t think about priest at all. If every class is a puzzle piece, the priest piece hasn’t changed by itself since 2008 while every other class has, to different degrees, gotten bigger, changed shapes, or even changed places in the puzzle. Priest has always occupied the same space in the puzzle, but the puzzle is bigger around it and other pieces have overlapped or carved away at the priest piece.

Our OoC rez is called Resurrection :smiling_face_with_tear:

Can’t even touch PVP because Hunters are throwing Freak-Offs in every BG now.

Year 2024 and Blizzard hasn’t figured out how to balance PvP and PvE separately from each other.

Insane.

While a lot of Blizzard’s treatment of priest is due to pvp the sad true is even their own pve changes show they have no idea what they are doing. The whole reason they went away from bubble spam was because it filled a role no other healer could fill making the spec required and because it was to easy.

Well with atonement disc fills a role no other healer can fill making the spec required and it’s still piss easy inspite of their best attempts to make it convoluted and complicated. This is because, as you said, they don’t want to actually dedicate any serious time to actually thinking through and working legitimately on the class. Frankly they need someone to come in and tell every single class designer that they can’t write a single line of code for any other class until they actually fixed priest.

The state of priest is truly a disgrace to the game, and to them as developers and if I did work this shoddy at my job I would seriously be considering if I should seek a new career. It’s just sad.
