Why is server lag this bad in 2020?

I don’t feel like it’s a lot to ask that we c an do korraks, Southshore vs Tarren Mill, or even this world PvP encounter, without experiencing game breaking lag. This is absurd.

Lag is exponentially increased by every person in the fight.

Are you running with a SSD drive or HDD? Just curious because I haven’t lagged once in the five times I did that fight.

Yep, this is precisely it. There’s so much crap going on at any given time, and it’s multiplied not only by how many players are on screen but how many units are on screen, which includes everything from hunter pets to trinket proc mobs.

Lag isn’t even half as bad in Classic because combat is so much simpler there. If you want less lag, petition for simpler combat.

Hard drive has absolutely nothing to do with server lag lol

Yeah that’s for sure the reason. My reasoning is that there’s available computational strength to brute force through these scenarios, including technology that does surge processing. Server lag shouldn’t be a thing anymore.

@Echab I have an NVME SSD on an overall beefy machine. This is server side lag that many people were experiencing.

Icecrown rares you can maybe get a few hits in before the lagfest hits.

WoW has always had a problem with server lag. Blizzard claims there’s nothing they can do until newer hardware/software can fix their problem with the workload that happens behind the scenes. I think that’s an excuse and they can fix it but don’t want to because it would require money to be spent on upgrading their game. Something they obviously don’t want to do. Activi$ion

Because the year has nothing to do with your potatoes limitations and the limitations of the isp your using to connect to the internet.

As long as everyone drops Protocol Beam on at the exact same time, then we’ll all be good.

Lots of people and lots of complex combat calculations to handle all the cool BfA borrowed power items…

Surprisingly I didn’t lag or dc at all lol

It is something that they do need to address, it has gone on far too long.

To put it in perspective, when The Burning Crusade arrived in January 2007, I played all night long–and not once did I receive any server lag at all, despite joining the millions around the world in Hellfire Peninsula, Zangarmarsh, and Terokkar Forest.

This pre-patch arrives in 2020, and it’s an utter lagfest. As soon as Nathanos is aggroed, Eastern Plaguelands shuts down. Just what is the deal with this and why doesn’t anyone at Blizzard Entertainment ever address it?

And don’t get me started on the 40v40 Epic Battleground lag at the Hangar and Sunken Ring.

I lagged out so hard on my last rare kill that I wouldn’t be surprised if they had to rescue the server with a fire extinguisher.

I lagged bad at the argent tourney. Left and did my emissary. Returned via argent tabard and I think I was dumped into a new shard cause I finished the quests and dailies in a matter of minutes.

As far as rares it’s not really been bad for me all evening. There is a bit of lag sure because about 50 people are around the mob but it’s not too bad to participate.
