Why is Reputation so insanely difficult to get in this game? It makes zero sense

We easily have over 100 reputations in this game, and if you happened to do one of them a long time ago on an alt, there’s no catchup to complete them again on a new character you may have changed to. I had a Belf pally in BC that I grinded some of the oldest reps like Ogri’La and Netherwind on, and
Only the reputations from Shadowlands seem to have a catchup mechanic for alts–if you completed it on one character, you can buy an item to catch up on rep for other characters, which is terrific. But outside of Shadowlands, there’s virtually no way to get rep quickly. Even Timewalking is an insanely tedious grind. You get what, 5 badges per dungeon, but the rep tokens are ridiculously pricy just for a single one. If you wanted to max an entire xpac again on an alt, you’re looking at like 90 hours of Timewalking… Unless of course you have 30 characters and do a TW dungeon on every one, and mail badges all to one character. Still looking at about 50 hours with that method, for half a dozen reps.
But many of the reps are virtually impossible for anyone with a life. Ogri’La for example is literally just 3 daily quests (4 if you count bugged simon says BS), Netherwind is impossible you literally never find the eggs you need because of bots farming them on repeat. Hydraxian Waterlords is 6 months minimum from scratch because you just kill bosses in MC, WSG and AB are equally insane, 300 rep per WSG assuming you win…
I’d seriously love to have them exalted on my Nightborne Warlock so I don’t see it in my rep log as “neutral” and feel incomplete… But these hard, insanely difficult grinds from 10 years ago have no catchup mechanic.

They’re optional.

There is a ton of catch-up rep stuff in this game. A ton of it. Some of them there is none at all. I have 105 reps at exalted, and I can tell you that if you put your mind to it, you can get like 40 done in a matter of 2 months.

The TBC reps are also easy, except Ogrila. The eggs are easy enough to find and you can combine it with the dailies. Why would bots be farming BoP rep items? lol.

Molten Core I actually started but eventually skipped because it’s legit terrible. The PVP ones are not going to be handed to you because of the nature of what they are. I did 2 or 3 of those.

But really, you can get 90+ without TOO much issue. One of the reasons I wouldn’t change my main is rep. I do agree that it needs to be account wide, or even server wide, whatever.

Maybe if you have no life, sure. Not trying to be rude, just realistic. If we have 15 hours a week to play, why would we spend any amount of that time doing something so unfun? It’s pointless if you have the achievement on a main. It shows why we need a catchup mechanic for alts.

Any transmog rewards from old reps are going to be account-wide. Any power rewards are long obsolete. In what possible world do you need to grind old reps? You don’t. You do not.

I banish this thread to the rubbish bin.

Don’t reps often have recipes attached to them? I don’t think those are account-wide.

Rep grinding is the best part of this game.

Its something that is usable the entire life of the game.

I agree, I mean, it’s optional as someone else said. You really don’t get a lot from old rep vendors. Some transmog stuff that most people prob wouldn’t use anyway. Some old recipes. But if you want any of that you can easily target the ones you want and not go the exalted title or something.

The way I did it was in batches. So I picked a route that would let me do like 3 sets of dailies, knock those out, and then move on to the next one. I didn’t raise every possible rep at the same time. I did however do it at the end of an expansion, which we will be getting to soon. So maybe a good time to knock some of that out.

Some BC ones it’s just a matter of running a dungeon 22 times. Which you can do in a couple hours. Lower city rep is an example of this. You can get multiple reps at the same time in Mana tombs, slabs, sethekk, etc.

The premise of this thread makes no sense to me. If you have them on your main, why do you even care to do it again on an alt?

They’re supposed to be a timesink.

Btw, Blizzard has made most rep grinds extremely easy. Just buy the TW tokens when it comes around. Or wait for them to make that expac Timewalking. If you didn’t do it while current, might as well wait until they nerf it.

The design is that you do the reps while you are in that expansion.

Going back is going to be tedious by design, you are not everyday in that expansion. It makes a lot of sense to me.

And the Netherwing stuff was not bad at all.

Reps fall into a category of legacy content that is just sort of left available for us “as-is”. If we choose to build a playstyle around it, we do so largely at our own risk.

(though timewalking vendors have introduced some catch options for some reps/resources)

The only thing that bothers me is the continuity of the story with rep.

“HAIL! Maw-walker! Champion of Azeroth! Hero of the Alliance/Horde! Slayer of dragons and gods, and friend of kings!”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa… you think I’ll let just ANYONE buy jewelry from me? You need to prove yourself by performing menial tasks for me every day for 21 days to prove your worth.”

I wish it felt better grinding rep from a story perspective.

No. Timewalking is 500 per week, 5/10 per boss, 10 per dungeon completion, and 50 per dungeon if you’re a tank/healer with the bonus satchel (which is pretty much always available). It’s incredibly easy to farm Timewalking stuff. And all those rep tokens being BoA makes it even easier.

That’s just a game mechanic. Same reason Vol’jin couldn’t just run back to his corpse after getting stabbed by a demon, and yet the players can.

My dh went from neutral to revered in AB last comp stomp.

My main farmed conqueror back when you got like 125 rep for winning ab and 50 rep q flag for wsg.

Wsg and AB have been boosted quite a bit already.

I do wish they added the mop double rep bonus though… if you got exalted once all the rep on qlts is doubled.

Some of the older reps can take awhile but I consider older rep as filler content that gives you something to do when you’re bored or want a change from current content, kinda like collecting mogs/pets/mounts.

A lot of older reps had tabards or dungeons you could run but it’s inconsistent. I liked the MoP commendation/favorite system where your alts could get a boost to any your main had gotten to exalted (I think, might have been revered; it’s been awhile). They should apply that system to all reps imo.

Final fantasy 14 handles reputations a lot better

DAMMIT I keep forgetting to do this. Some of the last reps I need to grind out are AB and WSG.

What’s funny to me is these two grinds are the pinnacle of my procrastination. Been putting it off for… 16 years now? Ugh.

i find if you’re really good at playing grinding games (like OSRS), gaining rep is a total brain-switch-off, grind and watch youtube moment.

The old reps are entirely optional unless you’re grinding them for the achievements. Later expansions (I want to say MoP onward) had rep catchup boosts for alts and things once you hit Exalted.

I honestly think that Rep should be a BoA thing that once you grind it once, you should unlock the rewards to buy on any toon. But still gotta grind it once.
