Why is Reputation so BAD in this game? It's literally impossible to farm

I missed a lot of SL, so I decided to go back and do covenant callings every single week. It’s been 8 weeks of doing every single calling I could find, and I have nothing exalted. My closest is the Ardenweald rep at 16/21k… There is NO possible way to catchup rep (that I’m aware of?). You just do it weekly forever, and do every tedious WQ on the map. Venari is the same too. Just farm her WQs every week for 26 weeks. Older reps are even more tedious and BAD!! Ogri’La is the worst rep I’ve ever tried, I gave up on it, since there’s virtually nothing to actually do other than 3 miserable dailies/weeklies that are truly utter trash…

BFA has to be hands down the worst. Your solution is to get contract and just do every WQ on the entire map every day forever

Renown is just another type of reputation. They implemented it because it gives them twice the amount of reputation to get players to grind, just as they brought back dailies on top of world quests so players would have to do both, thus twice the grinding.

Nothing ever changes. It’s all about repackaging the same old same old so they can pretend the things players dislike are new and exciting.

If it helps, I think you’re right; Ogri’la is the worst reputation.

I’m sitting at 99/100 right now, and I won’t even go back to do it. Mostly because there are easier MoP for me.

Wish I could remember what I did back during Shadowlands because it generally takes 6-8 weeks for me to fill a standard bar.

Probably would have been handy if they kept tabards though. They could apply that to instanced content to help people get reputation/renown in other ways.

It’s less points per renown level with rewards every level and 95% of the renown vendor rewards are unlocked for alts.

I have never done both. I haven’t even touched daily quests this expansion. I barely touched WQs.

You don’t have to do them.

I don’t remember either. I think I just did the storylines and WQs. Did we have emissaries? But I bailed on Ven’ari rep pretty early on.

literally impossible

it took us more than 8 weeks also. that’s how the grind goes.

I don’t know if you’ve already seen the NPC. But Au’Dara next to the Oribos FM sells covenant boost to 60 for 500 gold

To be fair, we have both renown and rep in DF. They’re just two different styles of the system.

Shadowlands baby here.

Ardenwield is where I sorta did most of my activity.

I think reps become easier as you unlock more of your covenant hall. You get some dailies. If you take it from the perspective of an expansion wide thing you can probably see why the limit is so high. It is a pain in retrospect though but there are catch-up systems in SL.

  • Venari 1k rep exchange
  • Covenant invasion in the Maw (cov rep catchup)
-10000 cosmic flux for max covenant abilities

Is it easier in DF? By far and beyond the alt rep grind is significantly better at the moment.

This is what I was missing… wow… I have 1 in all my covenant buildings. Trying to upgrade them now (: thanks for that tip! Any advice on Korthia? Bc I do every daily there and feel like I barely made any progress…

the anima conduit thing opens dailies that are fairlee quick and easy.

“It’s literally impossible to farm.”

Very poor (and incorrect) use of the word literally.
Are you earning rep? If the answer is yes, then it is factually wrong to use the word literally in this situation as the definition of the word in this particular instance implies it is an impossible task. As you are able to gain rep, it is not impossible.

You are being figurative with your speech, not literal.

Sorry, major pet peeve of mine alongside your/you’re, canon/cannon, paid/payed, and there/they’re/their. Call me a nerd or the grammar police, I don’t care. Fouling up stuff you should have learned at 10 years old makes it hard to take you seriously.

In any case, rep grinds have always been designed as a timegate. The entire purpose of a timegate in ANY MMO is to slow the overall progress while it is current content, or to keep you playing (and paying) as you go after it for cosmetic purposes several expansions later. Over time, some of these grinds have been trivialized in various means, but those tend to be few and far between. At best, I wouldn’t expect any nerfs to SL rep grinds until TWW/11.0 as that is technically still current/endgame content for players that didn’t purchase DF (don’t laugh, they DO exist)

With all of that being said, rep grinds are being addressed for TWW as rep moving forward is going to be tied to your Warband rather than your individual characters. Frankly, that’s the worst part of alts for me: my main is pretty far along if not maxed with most the DF factions, but even with rep bonuses my alts suffer on their professions by not having easy access to several patterns that are rep locked. This is generally the part of an expansion where my alts get more focus, and the grinds just aren’t fun.

As far as pre-TWW factions go, the idea is to apparently retroactively do it with older reps as well, but it isn’t easy to address 20+ years worth of coding without breaking stuff in the process.

I’d imagine the biggest problem will be opposing factions like the Aldor/Scryers.

Its a lot worse in this expansion. In DF WQ only reset twice a week and there is no callings. They did this to make raid loggers happy.

The reps that can be straight farmed tend to be my least favourite in the game. (I still haven’t finished the vanilla goblin rep or the Shadowlands avowed rep and I’ve decided to see if the dear-titans-make-it-stop cobalt assembly rep ever goes account-wide rather than farm it on my crafting alts for the recipes I’m missing)

Just as a humble reminder of why they started this, and it has become the model. Back in Cata they had the tabards, which allowed anyone to queue up for a heroic dungeon and spam spam spam until maxed. It would generally take about 8 hours and you could be maxed on all of the factions, allowing you to buy their best items within days of having access.

This led to many people maxing their character out, and unsubbing until the new raid or patch came out and then they would gobble up the content again before unsubbing. If the content was less than previous there would be complaints about “nothing to do” and how “this game is only for the elites” as, aside from raiding (M+ wasn’t a thing yet) there wasn’t much to do unless you made an alt to do everything that you had already done on your main. This led people to claim that Cata was the WORST expansion EVER. (Until WoD came out and then the bar moved.)

So ever since then, starting in Pandaria you had your daily quests and that was it. Nothing to infinitely turn in for rep, nothing to grind in dungeons, except for raid gear. Every new patch, (Thunder and Timeless Isle) had a grind of a few daily quests and that was it really. And just like that, a new model of gaming was created.

I don’t know about the first renown, but I remember farming renown 80 for all of my reps during SL in about a week. Just passive play netted the full XP. Not sure how it works now at higher levels though.

Doing the Ramkaken cata rep grind without ever setting foot in a dungeon was an experience.

checking the dates on my achievements, it turns out I didn’t actually finish it until mid-MoP … funny, I remember trying to finish it during cataclysm with that one catapult/canon daily but I guess I failed
