Why is pvp so lame in anniversary?

By pvp i mean alterac valley because very few others do warsong gultch and arathi basin. In alterac valley horde purposely loses to maximise its honor per hour. Who does that? i would also like to know who figured that out and put a curse on them because this is absolutely the most boring pvp ive ever seen.

Sorry for the rant but i had to get this off my chest one of the games i played alliance didnt bother taking any towers or graveyards and just went to drek and nuked him down in like 20 seconds flat. I just cant fathom how people think this is a good thing. So how and when did pvp become so lame in classic? This is NOT how it was back in the day.

Back in the days is gone people dont do that anymore. Be happy you get a bg, in SOD we have none. No bgs at all since weeks.

As much as people don’t want to hear it, the old system forced participation of all BGs - without going into a long winded breakdown I have done enough of those

Now without decay this is the way all blizzard fresh servers will be. it will never change without manual, direct attention to making it better and that does not seem to be on the to do list

But at least r14 is “a reasonable grind”. Take the good with the bad if you want.

But imo it has become so “reasonable” that it is now just another prebis grind. Is that good for the game? That is up to people to decide as individuals.

It has obviously made a permanent impact on the game as a whole

AV hasn’t been about pvp for a long time now. Bunch of bots running around killing npcs

Pvp in vanilla? That’s not a thing outside of very niche interactions. The primary way to gear and progress your character is pve. That’s why an and wsg is ded

The AQ patch is when PVP really nosedives. Health does not keep pace with weapon damage, so players start exploding. It’s not too bad if you’re in full Tier-2, Rank 12/13/14, or AQ40 gear. But if you’re in Tier-1 or lower, you start melting.

My Druids are both wearing Rank 10 gear and get completely exploded by GM/HW/AQ Rogues now. It will only get worse for me since I choose not to bother ranking past Rank 11.

In contrast to Level 60 PVP, there’s not much exploding in low-level PVP if you’re competent enough to wear Bear/Eagle/Monkey gear that’s not more than 5+ levels below Level X19.

At Level 39, I have 2200 HP and ~30 bonus spell power. Nobody dies fast when I’m hurling curses at them.

Lazark hit the nail on the head. Along with the culture shift of meta min-maxing or wanna-bes what you see is what you get.

classic wow pvp was never good.

people only could pretend it was good back when the game had a hundred billion noobs running around that were keyboard turning and clicking their abilities so they could feel feel powerful two shotting people in OP gear

once the game reduces down to only the core sweaty audience, it turns out the consume-heavy pvp of this game is just bad and nobody actually enjoys doing it.

let’s be real, league of legends ate wow’s lunch in regards to pvp games 15 years ago, and nothing has changed since. it’s a bad old system in a bad old game. stop pretending it’s anything worth caring about?

Well you’re comparing an actual game designed around a competitive ladder and meta to a game where pvp is just something fun that’s apart of the game

Apples and organes

Not every pvp game needs to be competitive. Some are built to just be fun. And an MMORPG has pvp elements to it to make the game world “more realistic” - it isn’t designed to be anything beyond a realism factor that is supposed to emphasize “two factions at war”

I will remind everyone that anniversary is actually the first “vanilla” server to ever exist that didn’t have pvp related things going on in game. It’s the first one of its kind like this. Whether it’s BGs or world pvp, or guild rivalries or whatever. Compare night slayer to any big server in 2019 and you’ll see what I mean

But I agree with you that there is only a certain type of player left playing. There is no point playing unless you are speedrunning clear times with a raid full of r14s, if that’s your thing (there are only so many times people will want to do this, the actual replayable content on vanilla fresh servers is all the server drama and rivalries which naturally evolve into pvp)

I’m also very curious to see how tbc anniversary turns out - after seeing the MOP numbers that kind of stings me for blizzard

I agree, they are ‘different styles of game’. In League, so long as you’re good you can win with just the starting champions.

In WoW pvp, your ability is determined by how much luck your raid team has had, as well as how much you swipe/how many hours you spend grinding a bunch of consumes.

It’s a ‘fun’ side game that to be any good at basically is a part time job in just pure maintenance so you can even compete.

So sure, I guess for people with lots of spare time who like playing in imbalanced settings, wow is great. But it turns out the vast majority of people just prefer playing a fair game where skill is a more relevant factor. Objectively. Because league of legends helped suck millions of people away from WoW.

It’s WoWs own fault for denying their pvp community any attention for all these years. Go look at Twitter, all the retail pvp big shots flame blizz all the time for it, most people just quit.

The fun of vanilla pvp is all the drama and rivalry that comes from it. Not that it’s balanced or imbalanced. I don’t think anyone really cares about that too much

When you look at a game like vanilla, it’s a pretty bare bones game by itself. But it has this element to it where players create their own content out of it, THAT is where the replay ability comes from. (Think Hardcore, Devilsaur mafia, world buff wars) Most people consider it bad my modern standards (because it is systematically in 2025), but it’s one of the frw games that you can actually make your own content and drama out of as a community . Sort of like OSRS

If you try to play vanilla over and over in an upwards fashion like you would more modern expansions you’re gonna be disappointed. That’s not why people kept playing the game over and over in te first place

Im going to say it PvE’rs ruin what was the fun part of PvP in wow. That along with the fact blizzard simply abandon it, entirely.

Might be worth taking one of them to r12 for the 3pc.

I don’t really care about the topic, just came in to say my bestie Laz is based once again

Carry on

Agree with the OP.

Allowing players to Queue for PvP Battlegrounds from anywhere in the world would be a positive update for the PvP Community on Anniversary servers.

The PvP Community thrives on dueling and getting to know like minded and skilled players. This is where friendships are formed and discovered.

While playing PvP Battlegrounds, the PvP player is stuck in an environment that does not promote growth or engagement with other PvP players. This results in a negative and lonely experience for the PvP player causing burn out and not having will to continue to log into the game.

Being able to duel in front of major cities, like Orgrimmar and Stormwind, while Queing for PvP Battlegrounds would generate an organic community focused on what they love out of World of Warcraft. PvP.

You forgot your year old quitting copy pasta spam.

it is not :expressionless:

not anymore :expressionless: now it’s pew pew pew get ez rank 14 for prebis. terrible

Because people have become mindless zombies and instead of playing to enjoy the jurney they want to skip 90% of the game for some sort of instant gratification, no matter how shallow or unrewarding ultimately it turns out to be.

World is a total mess in massive transition and all that is also reflected in the game. By 2032-2035 if should all stabilize snd we will have a clear direction agein.
