Is there a lore reason? I’m curious why did they choose Owlkin as the de facto look for Balance druids. I believe Balance was more nature themed before they changed it to be more astral themed?
Actually now thinking of it, other than tree form which is probably more restoration like, I wonder what should’ve been the “animal aspect” for Balance to represent nature/astral.
That’s probably where we ended up with the owlkin. Owlbeasts were in vanilla and perhaps had that caster/humanoid look they wanted. Idk what other mobs would hit that look. I don’t hate the idea. I love my fat chicken. But after 17 years sometimes I wish I had other options. I’m kind of weird when it comes to fat things in general and it spills into this game haha. I also happen to love owls. They’re my favorite bird and either #1 or 2 animal period (with bears). It was almost like a meme from the get go with their dance and all haha.
I think some like “partially” mutated/evolved elf thing would be neat. Even like a malfurion looking thing or something.
I like that idea. But you just gave me another idea, how about mushroom? Like similar to what we look like when we eat that evolved mushroom from Korthia or those mushroom mobs from the first area of Plaguefall.
In that case we have 2 animals: bear and cat, and 2 plants: mushroom and tree.
Owlkin are blessed by Elune and thus are a beastial entity with a large affinity for Nature and Arcane abilities.

Owlkin were a bit more iconic when the game first released too. They were one of the first creatures Night Elves encountered after leaving their starting area (and maybe even in the starting area?). Night Elves definitely influenced the early class design more than Tauren did.
Been astral form ever since it was available. Boomchicken form looks incredibly dated. Even if they allowed us to have permanent armored boomkin form like you have on Incarnation that would be an improvement.
I recall someone said on forums that the werebear form is for people who don’t like the bear form; we need another form for those like me who don’t like the Owlkin form.
I nominate a Sasquatch form or Yeti form as an option other than Moonkin.
Owlkin are blessed by nature. Wisdom of owls and power and strength of bears. Thats the gist of the lore reason
