Why is my best utility dying in Raid?

With the introduction of Flameshaper being better at Disc than Disc itself, we all know Disc is basically unplayed. So everyone is playing Holy in Raid because you need Fort buff from somewhere.

Right now the only thing I bring to the raid is that Fort Buff and that PoH is so undertuned you can take the Afterlife talent. So when one of our DPS dies my Raid Leader will tell me to unalive myself so I can rez a more useful player and save the battle rez.

No this is not entry level raiding, this is Mythic Kyveza (which we hopefully kill tomorrow). This is like HoF level gameplay. Where peak performance for my class is being told to go die.

The actual state of Priest right now, ladies and gentlemen.

Going through a similar scenario in mythic raiding so far, my holy priest experience is eeriely identical across all 3 of my raiding guilds:

  • Needing rescues and external mobiity cooldowns like Stampeding Roar, Windrush and Hand of Freedom to even get anywhere in time
  • The rest of the raid aggressively competes with me for safe spots to stand on and expects me to run to a further location to find mine(think Sikran charges or Rashanan’s web tether)
  • When I do run to find a less convenient spot to stand on, suddenly all of them are magnetically attracted to me and stand on top of me, so I just die if Guardian Spirit is already on cooldown
  • People running other miscellaneous mechanics ontop of me so I have to cancel my casts way more often than I should have to(such as Ulgrax poison circles and Bloodbound tentacles)

So yes, that’s the state of Priest, where we have no personal agency whatsoever, and the rest of the raid/group unilaterally decides whether we get to have a barely-tolerable experience, or one that is a utter nightmare.

Ye, a lot of people told me something along the lines of “but priest is mandatory in raid”, and my response is “if Priest didn’t have Fort, would they be taken at all?”

Well I haven’t been told to sacrifice myself to res someone else…at least not yet.

But I have gotten tired of people killing me on progression so I just drop Divine Image and run Restitution on those fights. Think about it, for a small price of ~5% throughput you get a self res and an bres for another raid member - it’s like having your cake and eating it!

I’m sorry I laughed at this. I would think it’s creative if I had to do this once or something but after that I’d prolly have to have a talk with my group.

To quote a wise man;

Suicide is badass!

(Even if the current state of Holy definitely isn’t.)

Honestly, going pretty heavy on the Obi-Wan Kenobi maneuver could be fun and unique gameplay.

Assuming that we

a versatile healer who can reverse damage on individuals or groups

don’t still have to bring health bars up one at a time.

and even heal from beyond the grave

Let’s do it. I don’t mind being a glorified totem. Already can’t move as it is.

It feels amazing to save a raid by making the decision to die on purpose in order to rez the tank when there are no battle rezzes left. Almost always the raid leader and others are very confused and what happened-- They just lost their tank, the healers are dying, and then all of a sudden the tank and a healer are back up!

But being told to do that wouldn’t be very fun. But it is an amazing utility if you can consistently pull it off. It usually means standing in a puddle to die and when you cast the rez you’re going to pop up on that puddle and die again, finally.

It does take practice to sacrifice yourself to brez someone on purpose with Restitution, because you have only about 15 seconds to spam heal the raid as much as possible so you can res at full health.
