The old death coil was 30y by default ( 36 with range talents) , so why is the modern version of the spell so short ranged?
Even fear got it’s range increased to 30 from 20, not sure why mortal coil got the reverse treatment.

Probably Blizzards way of balancing the 20% heal, or something.
Coil is fine at 20 yds.
It’s okay for kits to have limitations.

Disagreed, we already have limitations by being a turret/ramp class. Anymore than this is masochism.
Disagreed. There are other classes to play if you don’t like the Warlock playstyle.
That is called class balance
Our spammable CC (Fear) got a range increase (which is more important for us), while our instant CC & heal (coil) got a range reduction. If they were both 30 yd range, it would be too easy to get a guaranteed unavoidable CC chain of Coil > Fear x 3.
Mortal Coil at 20 yd range obviously allows you to do this, but you would need to extend further toward your opponents while being mindful of your positioning ( so you can’t just sit back near a pillar insta CCing their healer all the time)
you know what would have been fair in this version of pvp? if fear was on a sepwrate school of magic and drain life actually worked
I’d rather have Mortal Coil have the increased range and Fear have the reduced range as Fear can be often resisted whereas Mortal Coil still heals even if its fear-component is resisted.
But wouldn’t that make it more difficult to land a Coil (30 yd) > fear (20yd) from as far as possible? I always get worried about overextending.
