Why is modern WoW called "retail" WoW?

I would think both the modern version and the Classic version are both retail versions as you pay for the services.

Because in your World of Warcraft folders they are literally named “classic” and “retail.”

It’s a term used because prior to tomorrow you had no way to play classic as a retail product and it just kinda stuck. Then Blizz started using the terms and that cemented the way they are used.

I never understood this either… I always just refer to it as BFA… You pay a sub for both, its the current version of wow and quicker to type!

Because alot of the classic people are from p-servers and on p-servers they refer to regular wow as retail.

The illegals.

Uh. No. It’s because:

It has absolutely nothing to do with private servers and who played on them.
