Why is Malfurion dead?

Returning player here, Night elves are my favorite race alongside Draenei. Was a Night elf main in WC3 back in the day and malfurion is my favorite lore character.

Blizzard killed him off? For YSERA?! When? Why?

Someone explain this to me in a way I can understand the logic.

Simple, we needed Ysera to open up the back door to the Emerald dream to stop the Primalists from finding the baby world tree and doing bad things to it. Problem was she was dead because Malfurion is a moron that ran right into an obvious trap in legion which resulted in Ysera coming to save him only to get corrupted and slain. Malfurion came to terms with his actions and told Tyrande that he has to take Ysera’s place as it fixes the cycle as she wasn’t supposed to have died in legion, he was. So he swapped places with her and is taking a nap while Ysera spends time with her daughter and helps her become the new aspect so she can go back to the Shadowlands and wake Malfurion up at the end of the expac. Forgive me for saying this though I’m hoping when she does that she tells Malfurion that Tyrande ended up dying to save the world tree made from the souls of her people and that she won’t be coming back anytime soon as idk maybe she detonates with Elune’s power to put Fyrakk out of our misery. Either way he’s not perma dead he’s just sleeping till Ysera comes back to be the Winter Queen’s pet again

He’s been made too strong to be used without dumbing him down so much that it’d ruin story.

Wait but why did Ysera need to open the way to the emerald dream when the Druids of the flame can just tear their way in?

Doesn’t that mean she’s not really necessary?

He’s not dead. If only we were so lucky. He’s just stuck in Ardenweald until Danuser decides to release him. We know it’s not permanent because Merithra was made the new green aspect.

From my understanding, our way into the Dream was “blocked” by the primalist, and we needed to use Ysera as a backdoor. Since Druids of the Flame are still druids, I’d assume their method in didn’t block our path so we could just…keep using it.

Bare in mind this us making excuses. Meta reason is as stated, they needed Malfurion out the story for it to function with any form of stakes as well as coming of age story for Merithra who had some mommy issues.

We found out she wasn’t necessary before the end of the questline. Like, all she needed to do was give Merithra a pep talk, which she could’ve done from the dream.

At that point I had to wonder if they were stashing Malf because some big plot twist was being planned for the green dragons and they wanted him to be uninvolved in whatever went down.

At least Shadowlands accelerates Azeroth time (half a year to five years I think), he’ll be out before he knows it. :robot:

edit: Although i’ve heard some rumors there are Night Fae characters involved so Malfurion could be appearing in that cinematic. :pick::robot:

Wait, you think logic has been used to write this games story? This isnt 2010. Those days are long gone.

He’s not dead, he’s just doing what he does best. Taking a nap.

It does not.

We had a time skip between expansions, time was not magically faster while we were in there. We left the Shadowlands, then 3 years passed uneventfully, then dragonflight started.

Blizzard wrote it this way specifically for small character moments to happen in that time, things that would normally take a while to plan (Still waiting to read about a certain wedding, blizzard). And to just give the world a break, because if you look at the timeline on wowpedia, there’s been a world-ending threat every year.

Unfortunately they didn’t but, my axe will gladly do the job.

For chasing the Jailer plot, that is a very messed up timeline but I see it’s true. :hourglass::robot:

I’m guessing a year was tacked on to give the people captured in the pre-patch some time to stew in the maw for extra trauma. Just a guess though.

Malfurion is such a boring character. Tyrande needed to be free of him. The guy does nothing.

He did stuff in the war of the ancients, but now he just sleeps while she works.

He’s not dead, he’s just holding her spot. He’ll be back. Unfortunately…

Blizzard got rid of those Stormrage brothers, they were too strong of characters and needed to be brought down low.

Yep, there is NO indication that he died. Yes, he went to Ardenweald, but used a portal to go there physically instead of as a spirit. And the bond spell just caused him to fall asleep, which druids are used to doing anyway. It’s indicated that Ysera can return there at any time, and then he can come back.

I don’t know why she didn’t. It was almost a waste of time bringing her back anyway, because she found that she’s not connected to the Emerald Dream any longer, and she couldn’t do what she was brought back to do, and Merithra had to do it…
