Why is Legion content still time-gated?

I’m fine with having a bit of a grind. I don’t like it but I accept it. I’m even okay with having to do a class hall mission with a 20hr timer. What I’m not okay with is quests that require me to kill a spawn that simply doesn’t spawn.

“Take out the head…” is part of the rightfully-hated Breaching The Tomb achievement which requires me to kill three rare elites on Broken Shore. I found the first two without much issue but for the last three hours I’ve found nothing. To be clear, I haven’t seen a single player in the area. I have someone with me, scouring the map too, with no luck. We’ve tried realm-hopping with random groups with the same result.

Three hours.

These rares should be up at all times. This is content that is nearly three years old. This is really just ridiculous.

I’m not sure we can call rare spawns time gating. But I do remember having the same issue a few months back when. I was trying to get one of the class mounts.

I agree that they should revisit the timers on those rares.

No, they shouldn’t. They’re called “rares” for a reason.

people have really weird ideas about what “time gating” is.

this is more… luck gating.

I recall many of the mission table quests were down to an hour but not all of them… yea it’s stupid.

It’s the latest buzzword in GD.

Insert it every chance you get, whether it’s appropriate or not.

That’s not what time gating is.

That’s the definition of a ‘timer’. But there’s no gate.

RNG Gating. The next Pizza.

Still in Legion. Still timegated. At the moment, I have to raise 6 followers to ilvl 950. The missions to get said gear don’t appear every day. Just one example of timegating that is no longer necessary

Define “rare” because in every expansion, the term has been used as more of a name than an actual attribute. Mechagon’s “rares” are up once every 30-60 minutes. Draenor’s rares are up virtually 100% of the time. These mobs aren’t anything special — “rare” in this case applies more to their health pool than their spawn rate.

They seem to be up in waves.

When i was doing the parts prior to that quest there were several up at the same time.

When it came time to kill them for credit I saw 1. Not sure what kind of schedule they are on but if they don’t pop after 30 minutes or so I would go find something else to do for a bit.

Time makes fools of us all.

You can’t just sit and farm a rare. If it’s up for the day, it will respawn in 5 minutes.
If it’s not up in 5 minutes, it’s time gated, for another day.

Rarespawns aren’t rarespawns, they are timegated spawns.

What the methodology of which spawns will spawn on which day is Blizzard’s internal algorithms / RNG possibly.

The “rare” spawn originally thought of by everquest, in which a mob only spawns once every 1-90 hours, is not the case in wow. There are no rarespawns. They are only called rarespawns because it’s rare that when you need it, it will actually be there, unless you come check every day for Blizzard to decide it’s not rare anymore. At least for that day.
