Leather tends to be one of the better looking armor sets. Mail is by far the ugliest every expansion.

Mail armor is so terribly ugly. Especially at lower levels. My hunter is wearing a shaman kilt and my shaman is wearing basic hunter gear.

Leather sets are not ugly. They have great variety for transmogs and some of the best sets in the game. Mail suffers miserably. I have one set that I use for my hunter. Shaman options are marginally better.
