I support Kirby being in smash, but am dumbfounded as to why Goku isn’t.
Allow me to explain.
In Kirby Star Allies, the final boss is named Void Termina. VT has the power to erase realities. They are an Omniversal Level Threat. Kirby killed him without so much as breaking a sweat.
In DBS, Goku has achieved similarly stupid levels of power. The equivalent of Void Termina in DBS is the Tournament Hosts. Goku is rising in power rapidly and exponentially, to the point one day he can also kill them.
I side with the pro-Goku folk for that reason. I am not an Anti-Kirby.
I haven’t played a ton of smash bros, but the most realistic answer is probably licensing issues/costs. My understanding is that it’s not cheap to license characters from Shounen Jump for use in any kind of media, games included.

I’ve seen too many people advocate “BUT GOKU IS STUPID OP!”.
I mean, obvious answers aside, Kirby probably beats Goku under Death Battle rules. Something Kirby has in common with Superman.
I personally wouldn’t want Goku because there are better, more deserving video game characters. Shantae for one.

I’d agree had Cloud not get in.
Honestly I would take Goku over any more fire emblem characters at this point.
