All 3 Hunter specs get Kill Shot as a default talent that “is granted to your specialisation for free and can’t be unlearned”.
Why is it a talent then? Is it not just a default hunter spell like flare or tame beast?
I propose that the inital three talents be changed to fit each spec.
I’m sure people can come up wth better ideas, but it might be something like:
Kill Shot: Retain and grant to MM for free as it makes thematic sense. Only potential issue here is the current BM interaction with Hunter’s Prey talent and SV interaction with Coordinated Assault.
Tame Exotic Beasts (NEW): Grant to BM for free and modify a BM spec tree talent to additionally unlock the exotic beast abilities (such as spirit mend). This would allow MM and SV to use exotic beasts for a talent point but retain use of exotic beast abilities as part of the core BM identity. Possibly add a small pet damage modifier to this talent so it has some benefit to SV and MM beyond pure aesthetics.
Explosive Shot: SV default to retain interaction with wildfire bomb procs and the “bombadier” survival theme. Potentially rename to Explosive Charge and change the animation to a throw so it fits more thematically for a melee spec.
Does anyone else have better ideas for meaningful default talents for the hunter specs? Seems odd to me to have all three specs have the same default talent “choice”.
It isn’t really a talent. You can not unlearn it. It’s simply on the tree as a visual starting point.
All 3 specs utilize and want KS. I don’t really see the issue with the current implementation or why we would change it.
Thematically, it’d make sense to do the following:
Make Kill Shot baseline for all hunter specs.
Roll the effects of Improved Kill Shot (+25% crit damage) into Kill Shot in some form.
Move Concussive Shot into Kill Shot’s old talent position.
Grant Natural Mending by default to Beast Mastery Hunters, grant Posthaste by default to Survival Hunters, and grant Concussive Shot by default to Marksmanship Hunters.
Place a new talent in the position of where Improved Kill Shot used to be.
Place a new talent in the position of where Concussive Shot used to be.
Some ideas for the new talents:
Experienced Marksman - Passive - Replaces Improved Kill Shot
The range of all your ranged attacks and abilities increases by 5 yards.
Arctic Bola - Passive - Placed in Concussive Shot’s old position
Replaces Concussive Shot. Throw an arctic bola to reduce the target’s movement speed by 50% for 8 sec, bouncing onto 4 additional targets.
Aye. Or rolled into obligatory spec talents (e.g., Go for the Throat, etc).
Also fine.
This would be kind of like giving every spec Exotic Beasts or a 2nd pet (cosmetically). Not to mention excessive, unless Hunter base range is shortened by those 5 yards. I’d rather keep extended range as MM only.
Good direction, but odd choice for a “bounce” as the whole point of a Bola is to cause the weights to wrap around the central obstacle. Would more sense as a “and pulls in all enemies around it with an increased chance to topple each victim the further they are from normal movement speed,” but that in turn would probably be better as an alternative to Binding Shot than as a Concussive Shot buff.
Idk but I’m disappointed murder of crows didn’t become BM or survivals execute. MM makes sense as a burst spec, but by shuffling damage into the execute range (see many iterations of warrior) you handicap everything that comes before it, something which thematically BM and Survival aren’t (imo).
Crows could offer something different, such as resource refunding, cooldown reset chance increase etc. so that the cadence of BM / Survival change in certain health ranges. Instead you just gain a hard hitting filler, which idk I’ve always hated when arms warriors hardest ability is execute, the current version where it amplifies MS feels great imo, and when an execute isn’t spammable (like kill shot) it becomes this messy ability which pulls power out of the sustained damage in the spec.
As for the general tree I think camouflage(or feign death) would make more sense instead of killshot, starting the tree at Defensive / Mobility / Elusion, it could be a scaled down version of camo by appearing so early.
sO, A tALENT OOPS… A Talent all three specs hold in common, thus demonstrating our Class bond with one another… meh… What is Kill Shot but a slightly more powerful instant Aimed Shot, wihout the damage increase imparted by Aimed Shot to the almost mandatory Arcane Shot follow-up. For MM, this used to be a passive effect once the Targets’ health was under 25%.
Anyway, a heavy hitting ranged shot, instant, barring global recoveries, that increases critical strike damage… if you actually critically strike… Still though, we would all be able to shoot like we were all MM, pretty cool, unless you actually ARE a MM, in which case its the sos…
i would maybe like to see aMoC increase my critical strike chance 2% for every one second i keep aMoc on the same target, with a reset should the target expire before the ability. Fun! … Or focus starved? And, can we even share AMoC between the specs? We used to could, but anymore idano…
