Why is it so difficult to climb as a healer compared to dps?

Can a dev explain? i don’t understand.

A bad dps can win games a bad healer is just bad.

The devs don’t know, they don’t play the game.

Something about low amount of healers so they get further apart MMR which gives less rating. Something like that.

Then why doesnt blizz inflate healer mmr more than dps to make up for lack of healers?

Main reason, at least as I found it, was that it’s harder to string together consecutive wins. Going 3:3 is basically a loss since you’re losing MMR potentially. Lets say you win a few in a row and your MMR is +50 higher than your CR. Now you go 3:3 the next 2-3 matches. Your MMR and CR are now the same. You have lost your forward momentum and potential losses will actual impact you more.

Healers also just have… less agency and this somewhat compounds the lower you go. I’m sure this is debatble, but on my disc, I really struggle in the low matches at times. Even though disc is really good right now, it’s still susceptible to CC from the other healer. Sounds silly, but if a druid or monk want’s to push, I don’t have as much to push back. To that, in lower games, there isn’t as much healing so the more aggressive healer pays out. Not always, but it seems like that is the case often.

Also, healer MMR just seems to be on average, lower. I’d assume this is for the stated reason above, but you’re also pulling from a small pool of MMR. 4 dps in a pool vs 2 healers. Get paired with a healer that’s much lower? You stand to lose a lot if you lose.

They really could do a better job, BUT (tinfoil hat time) it may be like this to force healers into more games and to increase participation. I’d imagine that they tweak those numbers just enough to keep healers queue’ing, but that’s just a guess. :slight_smile:

Because dmg is king and they nerfed all the healers dmg so you have to be really good to end games. I remember when i started healing n bfa as hpal i loved it becasue it was a battle healer now you stand back and cast flash of lights and dodge cc lololol Epic combat mannn

Healers are rarely in a position to close out games on their own whereas dps usually are.

For the most part, dps win games and healers prevent games from being lost.

So if you’re not really in control of when you win, you’re going to have a harder time climbing.

Because you can’t kill the other team for them, thus, your impact on games is far less than a half-brained fotm dps.

No matter how hard you heal, if your dps isn’t doing much, you will lose

again i say why the heck hasnt blizz done something to fix this for healers? this is absolutely awful. every season its like this where you only fight glad players at 1800-2k and as a healer how are you supposed to make progress? if you go 3 in 3 you literally lose mmr no matter what unless your mmr is insanely high. I am genuinly not enjoying the game anymore. I play this game to have fun but i have felt nothing but stress and anger trying to heal in solo shuffle. its so frustrating. I would q regular threes but i have noone to play with so thats not fun either. Why cant blizz just boost healer mmr and make it more rewarding? the extra conquest is useless because of the conquest cap so its completely pointless. What incentive do i have to keep playing? I was literally 2030 rated earlier today and now i dropped to 1875. All of the progress i made is now gone. Why is this fun for anyone? Im starting to resent this game and hate it. All these dps basicly afk and get collect wins without playing half the time and healers get screwed for it. Its simply not fair.

have significant positive offensive impact every game while playing defensively clean and ur cr will skyrocket. What this means heavily varies from healer to healer. Like sometimes on holy paladin there will be no way you can run through 4 wizards and hoj the mw on maldraxxus coliseum but you can have major offensive impact by yelling at your team to just hit closest so you can stay on pillar and just hoj/searing glare some dps off of dispel while keeping 1 guy decritted/greater judged but some games it might just mean running it down mid at enemy healer and having 5 hojs and 2 blinds in 2 in a half minutes.

The way you carry as a healer is by min maxxing your offensive toolkit while trading cooldowns perfectly

Just FYI you are nerfing your own character by only having like 17% crit with you should have 25-35% on hpal and speccing ultimate sac is complete feed because it nerfs your sac to 6 seconds instead of 12 and makes you wayyyy easier to swap to and kill.

If I had to play solo shuffle as my main form of content on this game whether it be healing it or dps i would quit instantly and go play dota 2. You should be able to find real 3s as a healer there are always a bunch of people looking for one you just gotta look.

I agree blizzard needs to artificially boost healer mmr to be like 100 higher than dps so more people start healing and queue times get lowered. That being said the highest rated healer is only about 50 rating lower than the highest dps. The gap isn’t as massive as you think it is.

Curious, what other things are you actively looking at from a healer pov in solo shuffle? Are you going for reps? How are you managing late game w/mana? Do you take battlemasters if you become a kill target?

Depends on the matchup and the risk to reward ratio for going for reps

Never really go oom in solo shuffle unless its 80% damp

I just crossed 1800 in RSS on Disc and what’s funny is I’m noticing a lot of DPS over 1800 & 1900 that have negative W/L ratios by fairly substantial margins. Like a 46-47% win rate.

Have yet to see that from a healer. They just need to inflate healers more than DPS at this point.

I was on my lock the other day when I realized I could more or less trinket for fun or just because I felt like it and that choice didn’t mean a death sentence

The healers don’t get shuffled.
