It’s insane how Way of the Crane was 45 seconds and they removed it to add Invoke Chi-Ji at 3 minutes.
That’s a whopping 300% cooldown increase.
Way of the Crane:
Increases your Physical damage by 50%, you remove and become immune to all stun, snare and root effects and you heal up to 3 nearest allies for 175% of all damage done. Lasts 15 sec.
WotC = 15:45 (33%) uptime
Invoke Chi-Ji = 25:180 (13.8%) uptime, that’s abysmal.

And before, it made you immune to more CC and even increased your physical damage. Notice how its current iteration does not increase your damage, heals up to 2 allies instead of 3, and heals for less overall than it used to. On top of the CD, as you mentioned. I don’t think the instant cast Env. Mists are very significant, and you also have to take into account that you lose Invoke Yu’lon and Statue for taking Crane.
I’d take the 25% mana cost Crane iteration from BfA over what it is now.

Everything you said is spot on. Not only does it NOT increase your damage which would have fed into Fistweaving, it summons a terrible AI pet.
The pet does nothing but squawk and flail, it’s even a liability if it accidentally pulls. Roll whatever damage it would have provided to the monk.
Problem is Way of The Crane with Ancient Teaching legendary would have been…slightly …OP.
How so?
Healing on damage component would obviously go away on WotC if it were to be brought back due to conflict with the legendary and MW monks do terrible damage anyhow. Would you care about elaborating what part of replacing Invoke back with WotC would be OP?
I think they mean on paper it would be slightly OP. But in practice I can only imagine without ATotM being smart heals and gated by EF it would make it a bit more decent. It would push them ahead some others in raid but it just means more overhealing raid wise. This is including we only bring Revival(can be a negative being tied to a dispel) and Mystic Touch that another monk spec can bring.
It would take more than Spirit of the Crane with Ancient Teachings of the Monastery to make them OP.
