Got ya so there isnt anything enforcing a balance on wrath servers then.
Yeah, I am not a big classic player but got super into it for SOD and I just didn’t know if there was some balancing function was keeping things that way or not.
Grobb is balanced because Blizzard let a bunch of Horde from dying realms transfer there for free in early TBC, when the server was around 65% Alliance. It’s maintained that balance in part due to a special community and the RP-PVP label which repels the unenlightened, but don’t get it twisted, it took Blizzard to intervene for that balance to be achieved in the first place.
As far as playing there for Cata, no one knows whether it’ll stay balanced. I hope it will and plan to play both factions. One concern we all should have in Cata is that the trend of Alliance racials sucking for competitive PVE (~50% of the game’s population) but dominating in competitive PVP (~5% of the game’s population) continues. I think that Blizzard really needs to do something about this.
Grob is confirmed BiS, transferred from Bigglesworth mid-SSC/TK. Somehow it stays balanced and we have weekly wpvp on friday night, often 80v80 or more. Kind of funny seeing the SoD posts about big wpvp skirmishes when we’ve been doing it forever, happy to see so many people enjoying the spirit of warcraft.
I would also add that what helps it STAY BALANCED is that within the classic community it is widely known that it’s the only balanced pvp server for world pvp. So having that sort of title helps add almost a prestige to it and for many of us here we enjoy the community we have all created and we know that there really isn’t anywhere else to go.
There’s no ridiculous spamming or crazy botting on grobb which is definitely nice too.
Unfortunately, it’s not possible.
Let’s say Benediction has 12,000 concurrent unique players. To impose SoD 55/45 balance, they’d need to find like 10,000 horde players to join it.
As for Grobb, it’s a rather small server. So, perhaps its a tight knit community that actually wants to experience open world PvP and players there have already settled. Plus, free transfers were open to Grobb iirc.
So, everyone who wanted OW pvp is already on Grobb.
The reality is that 95% of the population in fact do not want OW pvp.
Alternatively
they could create clusters. Era has clusters. Retail has clusters. Wrath is the only game that doesn’t.
It will be the same thing is on Retail - if you really want to prog Mythic and push high keys, you will need to be Horde.
I felt “forced” to swap to horde on main for M+ push during Shadowlands. As it got so bad on alliance side. So Blizzard pushed out cross-faction M+
