Why is everyone confused about the token "change"?

There is no change at all unless you have been playing with gold for 7 years and even then you need to buy 30 days of game time with real life money once to be able to continue to use tokens.

Why is anyone upset about this? If by the off chance you have been buying gametime with gold for SEVEN YEARS, just cop the 15 dollars.

Friendly reminder also that blizzard makes more money from tokens than they do with any subscription model they have available.\

tl;dr
there is no change. just buy 30days of game time ONCE and you can continue to use tokens and this is only for people that have been using tokens EXCLUSIVELY for gametime for seven years.

There’s actually ambiguity on how they even count paid for game time. There’s reason to believe it’s not even checking payment type, just that you played on a minimum amount of game time, so it’s gonna grandfather in existing accounts, while blocking gifting throwaway bnets.

ok so? pay the 15 dollars or w/e for game time if that’s the case. your sub wont magically end on the 21st, just your ability to buy tokens. if you cant buy a token on that date then you know you’re affected.

this is seriously not a big deal, this is 15 dollars we are talking about. a one time payment of 15 USD.

I am wanting a bit of clarity on it myself. I have no problem paying ONCE with real money but I have been using wow tokens/Bnet balance since Diablo 3 BMAH and MoP to pay for game time and tokens since that has been a thing. My next sub expiry date is not until 2026. So can I just buy a month now and be good or what?

It looks like it won’t require existing users to do anything different from what they’ve been doing.

The change is for new accounts with no playtime only due to an implementation detail.

yes. you will also get full clarification in a few days if you suddenly cant buy a token.

on the 21st just try and buy a token. if you can, you’re good. if you cant, just buy a sub for a month and gg. nbd

From what I can tell, the restriction stops NEW accounts entirely, as the taiwan post mentions days of play time must have been consumed, so gifting a fresh bnet won’t work.

No ambiguity at all
“…• Players will no longer be allowed to purchase a WoW Token from the Auction House or the in-game Shop for gold if they have not spent real money to purchase and consume at least 30 days of game time (a “Time Limited License”) since 2017…”

Buy 1 month sub time every 6 years with real money or you don’t get to buy tokens.

Unfortunately the 30 day game time in the Blizzard store is no longer available, it comes in 2 month blocks, UNLESS you actually subscribe.

People aren’t so much confused, as they are outraged by this callous slap in the face.

ya it’s annoying so you gotta actually buy a sub then unsub instead. no, you dont have to buy the 2 monther. a subscription is game time in either 30day, 6month, or annual intervals.

a slap in the face to literally who

Because some people will have spent hundreds of dollars of real money but are still getting lumped in with the botters. If someone has been playing since Classic and owns every Blizzard game but bought their game time with gold once that option became available, there’s no reasonable excuse for accusing them of being a bot.

I expect more than a few bot farms to become financially insolvent soon.

Then my herbs won’t sell for coppers any more.

win/win

It actually looks really conservative if the taiwan post is the more accurate one.

It’s tracking game time played on and not battle.net transaction history.

So it’s gonna restrict gifting new throwaway bnets a full xpac, while grandfather in existing users with played on play time.

they’re upset because they have to pay less than what they actually pay to do exactly what they’ve been doing before

like they genuinely need to grow up and stop overreacting to nothing.

once btw. they need to but 30 days of game time. once.

No idea

Sorry, I was joking.

nah it was funny dw because it just goes to show how ridiculous this outrage is because nothing is actually happening to the majority of players haha

and the ones affected only have to buy game time once.

Taiwan post makes it seem like that isn’t necessary, as it’s gonna grandfather any played on account.

It’s checking some time stat, not billing history.

Almost like they are actively targeting bot accounts.

I love this change.
Wish we had it sooner.

Gathers will soon not have to compete against bot farms to sell our herbs and ore.

Well I’ll have to use a token to do it, which is a bit annoying so that’ll be gold to replace the token heh, but that’s fine.
