While I do have criticisms/feedback (which I’ve gi ven). I’m enjoying it much more than I expected. They look even better in game than images. They feel good/fun to feel. I do wish they had some more fun/utility that vanilla classes had (mage portals, lock soulstone). But they do glide and hover and such.
I think I might actually main them. I’m not usually super into healing and I am reluctent to think I could raid heal well I actually liking preservation. It might be my new favourite healer since mistweaver. Also as much as I love my monk I’m tired of being stuck as only dps. Only having 1 dps spec and 1 healer spec does kind of limit the diversity of playstyle a bit but I am enjoying what we have so far.
I hope they get a third spec, I hope they get soar buffs, I hope they get more armor options/colors in the barbershop.
It’s a good class, and I encourage people to not heed a lot of the crazier topics about them on the forum, and try them out with an objective mind. A lot of heart went into this class and you can tell. I’m very pleased with the experience I got from it, and thought Blizzard nailed it.
me and my fiend have one, a healer and dps, and we both feel the same way about the whole class in general. I think the class is ok, but it feels unfinished compared to other classes. When I play my dracthyr it just makes me want to play a different class since they just feel so weirdly like they are missing something within their kit. Monk and demon hunter didn’t feel this way at all instead they actually felt pretty good in terms of rotation and gameplay.
Devastation feels a lot like arcane mage to me… Sure anyone with two braincells can pick it up and do it, but a really good player is going to be planning 15, 30 maybe even 2 minutes into the future.
The difference between popping dragonrage too early or too late in a huge pull of mobs could be a difference of 20-30% DPS.
i liek it just wish we could choose which version the forum sees , id liek to have my visage as my forum pfp and the option to have visage for armory esp when ppl do the tmog voting threads .
I am having even more fun trying it on a gamepad with consoleport, the new gamepad improvements in Dragonflight with action combat followed with the key press abilities feels like its meant for it.
It was all the doom and gloom that made me shelve my enthusiasm. I made one just to be on the hype train on launch, but it just really clicked with me in a way that hasn’t since old moonkin did.
Been spending a lot of time trying to see how I can squeeze the most burst out of it, and oh boy does it have a fun window.
Based on the damage numbers of about half the folks running devastation in dungeons with more or less the same gear… yeah it’s clear some folks don’t know what they’re doing. I really shouldn’t be doing 2x or even as much as 3x as much dps. Why are they doing 2.5-3k dps and I am doing 7-8k.
“insane movements” - Blink + Displacement + Alter Time
“laz0r beams” - Ray of Frost
“dragon roars.” - Dragon’s Breath
All with shorter ranges.
The empowered Red move sucks since you only trade DoT timing for burst.
The empowered Blue move is okay-ish for the # of target increase.
They do have insane AoE burst though, maybe stronger than DHs.
Mages still have longer range and a better combat flow.
Devastation is very wonky in it’s flow. You gotta plan ahead a lot.
At least you can channel while hovering, and you gotta hover a lot with that 25y range.
Living Flame isn’t a good filler, and something other than that instant on move, not counting hover, would be a lot more interesting.
Thinking about this now, I think I just miss spells that you could naturally cast while moving (LB, Scorch), and it would make a lot of sense for Devastation to have one such spell.
I’m thinking I will main it this expac, just because it’s something new. I don’t buy into the whole “too easy” line of argument, simply because I don’t feel like many classes have been complicated in WoW for a long time.
That said, the rotation does feel a little clunky to me.
