Why is corruption a casted dot?

I’m a veteran of old days, tinkering around for a bit. I’m experimenting across all 3 specs as I level and one thing that is strange (few things but this one is such a low hanging fruit of a tweak), is that corruption is a 1.8 sec cast for non-UA. Why? It makes it clunky to swap from one spec to another, and corruption isn’t even that strong. Not even sure we should bother casting it (mind you, I’m leveling).

Good question!

I don’t know either. It’s pointless for everything but Affliction.

They don’t want other specs to use it, even for movement :frowning:

But then its like - why is it in our arsenal at all? It’s super confusing to someone new who doesn’t know enough to google things (my daughter is a good example - its annoying that I have to explain something that doesn’t have an explanation). I’ve noticed they do this a good bit with abilities across classes…they include useless spells that confuses the hell out of new players.

Fake advertising at its best, they advertised SHADOWLANDS coming back, this big expansion with return of the old abilities… i would totally cast corruption as a destro lock when im moving and i have nothing else to.

When you get fire-locked, you can cast this…I guess. /shrug

Im demo and I like having the additional dot. It is just with the cast time I can’t use it. Its not even on my bar which is a shame because I want to use it.

you dont use it unless youre affliction. they brought it back to have a few slides on blizzcon to rally the nostalgia and then implemented literally nothing useful

Because screw you.

Seriously that’s the only reason I’ve come up with since beta.

Corruption is what happens when you have developers being told they need to bring back old spells. Then they decide to do it blindfolded. The “reason” it has a cast time is because back in the day it was a cast time baseline, needing 5 points in the first talent tree of affliction to become instant cast. Even then it still had some use as a decently powerful dot to put on enemies, but its not even that. 1400 damage over 14 seconds with an item level of 206. Thats what mine says. Its an absolute joke.

It was just for advertisement. Blizz wanted to hype ppl up but it only looked good up front. They dropped the ball, like always.

Blizzard wanted to bank on nostalgia at blizzcon without actually putting in any framework towards classes to make those old abilities implemented in a proper way because that would take dev time away from developing torghast and the maw and other useless systems they toss away next expansion.

Well back in vanilla, tbc, wtlk, etc, when we had the old talent trees, you had to spend 5 points in Afflic tree to make it instant. It was established as a cast time dot most likely so we would add to our talent point sink.

Torghast

They took away instant cast so they can give it back as a power in TG.

Just how they take away other abilities to add back as Legendary items, spellbinds etc.

Not only this, but also because of the way that spell power scaled. A 2 second cast time had about 85.7% coefficients while instant casts were about half that. Getting an instant cast with double the regular instant cast spell power coefficient was really good. Having it changed to instant cast base line would have actually been a pretty hefty nerf to the spell over all.

Sadly now it’s 100% useless when hard cast, and you can’t drop 5 points into an Affliction tree to lower the cast time (or the usual 7 total for Improved Lifetap either).

In Torghast, you can select an anima power that makes Corruption instant cast and also slows mobs by 60%. You can also use Corruption to throw a dot up on a rogue or druid in PvP to prevent stealth. For the most part though, you won’t be using Corruption.

Because they “unpruned” in the dumbest way possible. It almost feels spiteful.

Corruption happened when you don’t have class developers anymore.

Corruption had a cast time in vanilla so i don’t see how it is false advertising. You had to talent into affliction to make it instant cast. This said it was a first level talent anyone could take and even SM/Ruin hybrid would take it for Nighfall proc.

Pretty much. Blizz made such a huge deal about the UNPRUNE!™ but then made almost all of the new old abilities completely worthless. Across all classes and specs only a handful are actually useful. Most aren’t even worth putting on your bars.
