Why is classic the hyperfocus atm?

Ok, the previous statement was a bit exaggeration.
Sure, you have more options atm, but none of them are appealing to me at this point.
How about that?

And I have no issue with that.

You may or may not be aware, but classic has the reputation of having by far the most sweaty and toxic players for the most trivial version of the game. It’d almost be impressive if not so sad.

What you are describing is how vanilla was and classic was not and is not like that at all.

Not everyone plays like that, I never did.

And you can easily avoid those players due to an abundance of casuals to PuG with.

I had a blast in SoD P1 with all the chill dad guilds.

The folks who are the most hardcore in Classic are likely those that never stopped playing it- they were probably on those private servers before the 2019 re-release.

And they figured out a lot of min/max stuff the rest of us didn’t.

I could consider giving Classic (Vanilla or BC) a try if it had the visual improvements and transmog capacities from Retail, but having the Classic systems.

I just don’t think I’d like to live in a WoW without being able to transmog my gear out of the clown mismatches or staring at low res player models.

You can say the same about retail though. If I was ever interested in getting back into raiding, I’d take some time to research and try to find people playing at my speed and not a bunch of pros.

Idk what specifically happened, but raiding fell off for me around Cata. Had no one else to play with.

I’ll run it new raids on LFR to see them, and call it a day.

There’s other games I play for PvE stuff instead, that have taken that spot. A PvE game that thrusts you in with randoms, regularly. It’s just my preferred way to play.

I treat Retail WoW in the same way as one that plays Classic casually. Taking it slow.

The only thing I really do anymore is PvP, for the cosmetics/sets.

I did enjoy delves for a bit, but they’re solo affairs so I got bored. And repetitive.

Idk, PuGs have always been the way I play WoW, ever since my friends left in like Cata/MoP.

BG Blitz was my main motivation to coming back tbh, and I really enjoy that mode. It’s all randos.

I like the feeling of being a nameless soldier of many.

My approach is different. I usually try to avoid pugs at all costs. I used to have way more fun playing with people I was familiar with. Only problem is they’re all gone and I really haven’t made any effort at meeting new people so I usually gravitate towards solo content such as delves.

For me (and many others), the only reason TO play wow is for the people you play it with.

As a game in and of itself… WoW isn’t very good.

As an MMORPG, I think it’s still one of the best.

But yeah, any MMO generally pales in comparison to a non-MMO.

Sacrifices have to be made for the game to be ā€˜massive’.

Well, I wouldn’t go that far, but I agree it’s way more fun if you have people to enjoy it with.

I just mean that I rarely ever play WoW by myself. If I’m going to play a game solo, I have way better choices in my steam library.

(In fact I’m playing one right now.)

Classic WoW is a timeless classic video game. Despite peaking rn Retail feels more like a really good WoW clone compared to Classic

People will be playing Classic 40+ years from now, still.

I actually went to a video game exhibit years ago, and WoW was featured prominently. It was a phenomenon.

It’s timeless like Mario 64.

There will always be someone that never experienced it.

What’s funny is that vanilla WoW, at the time, wasn’t very good. Most of its competitors were doing it better.

It has an odd appeal to people for whom it was their first online game, though.

It just took the good parts of what made UO and EQ good gameplay wise and finessed them in the polish and approach department.

Truth be told I actually do usually quit shortly after I reach max level in classic

Probably because of that onlyfangs thing, Tyler1 and Thor are big streamers doing it.

Classic never stays hyped for long… there isn’t much really to do, retail still has a far larger population still.

I’m still doing Retail. I thought Vanilla Classic was interesting, just seeing how it all started, but it doesn’t have Blood Elves so I’m not that interested in playing.

I thought Wrath was the perfect example of what Classic could be. I wish they would run one less Vanilla and add one Wrath.
