Why is Classic free?

  • Is Classic free because we already paid for Vanilla and Classic is not considered to be an expansion?

  • Is Classic free to preserve as many monthly subscriptions as possible and/or to bring back old customers?

  • Is Classic free to kill off the pservers?

  • Since Classic is free, would a Classic BC be free?

  • If Blizzard charged for a Classic BC, could Blizzard then be sued by the pserver companies and/or customers?

Classic is NOT free. You must pay $15 a month to play.

Aside from all the other silliness I’ll respond to this one.

The answer is no, not because Blizz owns the copyright and trademarks, but because Blizz has more money and lawyers. Remember Blizz tried to steal DotA but only got rebuffed because another big company grabbed it first.

Thinking the OP means purchase cost.

You can’t say its free when you you have a monthly sub.

Its free cause you already own it, and its clear hes talking about the initial purchase not the sub. Without the sub theres no incentive for Blizzard to re-release classic, plus you can still play retail with the sub.

Blizzard will never be able to be sued by pservers. They are using blizzards copyrighted materials to run.

The base game is free with a sub, it would look really bad if an older version of the game costs more.

Classic requires a sub. They can act like its a retail sub but if I don’t play retail then I consider it a classic sub.

Honestly I think Blizz sees Classic as more of a way to entice people back to WoW in general. Since those former players would have to buy a sub to play Classic, they would also not have a cost barrier to try out BfA (or up to BfA if the player hadn’t bought BfA).

So maybe the real question is not why is Classic for free when you pay to play BfA, but rather why is BfA free when you pay to play Classic.

The game been going down hill over the past 5 years, this will be a huge sub spike for them for a few months. After the subs die off, however long that take, then well see what happens with the company. I feel that blizz is running out of rabbits to pull out of their hat to stay financially viable in the future.

Probably because Blizz knows not enough people will play it to make any money off it.

Just a way to get some people back to the game.

Lmao still the number one MMo…
Classic will not impact wow or Blizzard one way or the other at all.

Classic is included in the sub for various reasons some of which you already listed.

Personally I would not mind if during the 2-3 years I will be playing Classic they managed to fix Modern and I could then hop back in there.
Now is this likely…no I don’t think so but one can hope.

Remind him also that WOW is not the only product that Blizzard has.

I truly hope no one actually believes this because it’s beyond dumb.
