Why is BrM never meta?

Why is Brewmaster never meta? Does Blizzard hate BrM? Even Guardian Druid has been meta (I saw people partying with 5 Guardian Druids and clearing +29 keys in season 2). Blood Death Knight and Warrior were also strong in season 1, Demon Hunter and Paladin were strong in season 3, and Demon Hunter remains strong in season 4. Why are monks the only ones forgotten, except for the healer specialization? Brewmaster is by far the most fun tank to play. I know how to play Brewmaster; even when pugging, I can do very high keystones. If you know how to play and are self-sufficient as a Brewmaster, you’ll be a great tank, but it would be nice if we were meta for at least one season.

Brewmaster is by far the least played tank in the game; it would be interesting to see how people would play Brewmaster if it were meta. Brewmaster is the hardest tank, so imagine if it were the strongest tank for a season, and everyone created one for pugging; how funny would it be to see new Brewmasters who don’t even know how to use Purifying Brew hahaha.

I would say BRM is more on the side of forgotten. The devs constantly forget about monks in a ton of aspects of the game and while it does kind of feel pointed its mostly the last thing they remember.

Ironic post given that BrM had a longgggggggggggggggggggggggggg stretch as the premiere progression tank in mythic raids.

I mean if you go to the alpha forums under monk. The devs have a post about WW and mist but have no mention of Brew

That’s mostly because WW and MW were historically trash and you wanted monk buff. Outside old guard BrM, stagger is an absurdly overrated class mechanic.

Brewmasters have been ranked S or A tiered plenty of times in plenty of expansions. They just ain’t never been “meta” because of their low popularity.

It’s amazing, absolutely everything you said was wrong. BrM is and was used in progression raiding because it is notoriously difficult for them to get one shot even when undergeared.

I think OP meant why Brew want never meta in m+.
To me is coz Brew is really hard to play with a high learning curve and high ceiling. Also it have many many button to use

No tanks have had updates on the TWW Alpha, so likely all tanks will be updated at the same time.

Brew is fine, just not meta at the highest levels of M+ because Stagger hits a limit. The big problem with Brew is button bloat but given the changes so far it’s looking promising to have Brew reduced to a reasonable number of buttons and become more popular.

Its an interesting cycle. Representation is obviously a factor in how much dev attention any given class receives. However, dev attention (or lack thereof) plays a role in class representation.

Once a class is in the whirlpool its tough to get out.

The limit of Stagger is not 100%. it is 1000%, which you can’t reach currently. without BnW talented you would take your entire HP bar in dmg from stagger every second. Reaching that point is not survivable with the current stagger rate.

It isn’t currently. (or for season 3). In S3 the first Brew to kill Tyndral and Fyrakk was Relo in world 25 guild. This was the case in the past though.

On topic:

  • Brew lacks utility. DH, Pala and to some degree Bear have it. DH can CC a pack for days, Pala helps in boss fights with sac, bop, off heals. and Bear has off heals, which can help with stabilizing the group.
  • grouping. DH and Pala (Divine Toll) can group a pack way better and faster than brew. this means AOE dmg becomes efficient faster and possible earlier.
  • spiky. despite stagger, brews HP bar jumps very fast. This means it requires way more attention from the player. combined with the amount of buttons etc. it can become quite the hassle. in contrast to DK who is also spiky, BRM has no Cheat death. This further amplifies the constant need to pay attention.
  • Community perception. This is true for many specs, but up to like 25 keys it doesn’t matter what spec you play, but pugs see the top 0.1% and think it has to be that setup. Special caviat: they think Brew does a lot of damage, but we were top DPS tank only for a short amount of time in Dragonflight, but that short period is in everybodies mind.

On a personal note. I like Brews many buttons. I like the BoK rhythm. I dislike cat statue and BDB, although I could live with them. But I hate the spikyness. long ago I decided for Brew because it had the smoothest dmg intake out of the tanks. The amounts of times I died because I was GCD locked and couldn’t use CB is also very frustrating. For the complexity it has now, the reward is just too little.

BrM was one of the best tank in mythic raid of many expansions . Just BrM is never the best tank in dungeon or m+.

This was true until the Shadowlands health pool changes. Now the ehp is cooked in. Before Shadowlands, it was very true. Now, raids are where BrM is functionally competitive. But given MW is more fun, healers are more sparse, bringing double Mystic Touch doesn’t bring extra utility, and VDH rocks for everything, BrM is less present.
