What about them is good? I don’t see how they’re viable at all
They aren’t though. Stagger effectively prevents them from getting one shot by melees. Ever. Beyond that, they’re one of the more mobile tanks with decent utility. Also Dave is pretty handy to have.
Roll transcendence and RoP sucks though
If you’re talking level 48 they’re just about the same as every other tank.
At max level, brew master is actually probably the best tank in the game at the moment. The reason being because they can just eat huge hits that would normally kill another tank and stagger a huge portion of it as a dot. Simply put brew master can really take a beating and excels in taking big hits.
In response to your other post, roll is a decent mobility. Not as good as vengeance and their leap or heroic leap from warriors but it’s still good. Ring of peace does not suck. Its one of the most useful utilities in mythic plus.
all stagger does is stop you from getting one shot
Lol like all the top tanks are monks rn. That or warrior. Sorry you cant tank your classic dungeons
Stagger is how we mitigate damage. We build up a large amount of it then use purifying brew to flat out remove half of that damage we would have taken. It makes us remarkably sturdy and the most predictable tank of the bunch to heal since the damage we take has very little burst.
Ring of peace is also incredibly useful and when combined with roll and trancendence can give allow us to kite fairly well.
“That’s the playstyle. If you don’t like it don’t play it.”
Its rough lvling as a BrM. It doeant really work as well until you have your full toolkit. I almost called it quits on brm for this reason but now im so glad i didnt. I play all 3 specs and love them all but i find that im playing brm way more than the others. And about RoP you will figure out so many good uses for it, like this week is sanguine and you can knock those mobs that wont move right out of the puddles. Also you can use it to split mobs from emissary. BrM is a great tanking spec but wow isnt designed for leveling its designed for endgame
At low level it does feel bad but when you are at max level and can effectively take a hit that would kill another tank and you just laugh and have 100% mitigation up. Brewmaster is by no means a bad tank at all and are one of the strongest tanks in the game.
Edit: it was a Brewmaster that solo tanked Mythic Za’qul
I’m a 100% brewmaster newb, and a casual player on top of that.
I tried to level as a brewmaster and almost gave up, then I switched to windwalker and had a much easier, more fun experience.
Apparently, healers really like brewmasters due to how stagger smooths out their damage and makes heals easier to plan.
The whole stagger thing doesn’t sound very sexy, but omg that s**t works amazing, and its so easy to use. While other tanks have to carefully plan their defensive cooldowns to survive boss fight damage, I just do my normal rotation of chugging brews and purifying every so often.

nobody can tell this is a troll making fun of stagger and all the people who think its better than mobility. guaranteed all the top tanks you’re talking about are kiting. not just face tanking with ironskin and fortifying
I barely kite if at all. I can pull single packs and not need heals or I can face tank multiple packs without the healer needing to do too much
Dont lvl as brewmaster. just dont. THey suck at every aspect of the game BUT are gods of mythic + and raiding.
Lvl as WW. farm dungeons as Brew with itemisation set to WW> Profit.
I leveled all of my allied races as a BrM monk with ease, but I’ve mained a BrM since the day you could.
I say that to say that Brewmaster is a deceptively challenging class/spec — one that takes a lot of practice and is not for the faint of heart. At first glance it seems straight forward, but while the planning for other tanks is for when to cast your active mitigation, Brewmasters must also decide when to purify as well. If you’re dying a lot in leveling, you’re trying to be a warrior or a bear.
You’re a dodge tank, and that applies to both the action of moving (e.g., kiting) and the Dodge stat. Positioning matters, utilities matter, play style matters — master those and you’ll find Brewmaster is a breeze.
ring of peace resets necro stacks. stagger keeps them from getting oneshot. monks are best mythic tank i think. its why I wanna level one but… its hard to wean myself off of pally.
And you can use rop to reposition packs or that annoying mob not quite with the group. Kick them out of sanguine. So many uses
BrM is solid. I switched to RJW and noticed at 10k+ dps spike on trash in mythic+, and 5K odd bonus damage on bosses. So our damage is getting there.
As for tanking, we can take a hit solidly. Ox statue for skittish (although the range can be hectic), leg sweep, ROP, etc, we have so much utility on top of our tankiness.
Even during skittish weeks, rop will still out weigh
This is still one of the most puzzling threads in the history of the game. It is basically the equivalent of a well geared/competent current fire mage making a thread about why damage during combustion is so bad.
