Why is blizzard so scared of politics in wow?

Just like the title says why is blizzard so scared of politics in wow?

They have such a great golden egg here between the human kingdoms, the Dwarves the Orcs, and the Night Elves, they have so many potential points of conflict and story, and yet they’re stuck on giant enemy god of doom and destruction.

A great world has politics, it has division, and conflict, it has racism, sexism, and questionable morals, it has problems.

Just because those issues are a real issue, and should not be glorified, it adds an air pf realism to any fantasy world.

You can include these things, without glorifying them.

They have so much available and yet all theu can churn out is bad Sylvanas fan fiction.

There’s several factions of Orcs, Tauren, Dwarves, even Gnomes and Trolls, that they can go with, they can legitimately build upon the world as it exists and explore the inner conflict and clashes, Racial tensions such as the ones between the Undead and Humans,

They’ve inadvertently opened up a new development for Night Elves, as originally they were a matriarchal society, the women were the fighters while the men defended the Emerald Dream, now they are rebuilding their society and they can do so without the need to build it around old traditions.

The dwarves still have splintered factions that they can touch upon, one of which was even shown trying to bring about a new Firelord, and that was just swept under the rug.

The forsaken have retaken loarderon and undercity, there’s talks of a potentially Neutral city above it, (nothing confirmed mind you) the new factions forming within the forsaken

The consistent threat of the Scarlet Empire, and the fanatics who follow their ideals

The troll empire, we had so much potential story telling for the Horde in BfA, in the golden city, but it was mostly reduced to hostile mob zones, and kill quests because “they didn’t listen” we could’ve had an entire patch surrounding Trolls and Kul’tirans, and the drust, instead we got what we got.

What are your thoughts?

They’re not interested in politics that requires more thought than leaving Hollywoods trends.

Have you seen the current state of politics in the world these days? I’m scared. You should be too. :scream:

A world where gnomes can walk free does in fact scare me, yes.

I hope to rectify this.

A great world has evolved beyond such petty, backward, insidious concepts.

Maybe in a perfect world, but perfect is boring with no conflict, no strife, nothing.

Fun fact. Garrosh was actually 6 gnomes in an orc suit.

Good political intrigue is hard to write. And given most players don’t seem to bother reading the quest text and get grumpy if they aren’t out killing something, what’s the point?

Personally I think there should be an entire rogue campaign about political intrigue.

As a NE hunter, I would just be in the woods nibbling berries and not caring.

And as an orc, I’ll be happy to punch you for those berries.

Not because I want or need them, but because you have them and I don’t.

I understand what you’re saying but what reason do we have to read quest logs when they’re barely relevant now? Or when the story telling is just…Shadowlands.

Good story telling breeds intrigue into the quests.

And there is the problem.

tosses you a few berries before Hati decides you would make a good chew toy

I don’t want these berries.

I want your berries.

Will happily pet Hati because they’re a good doggo and have done nothing wrong.

But yes, get rid of the bad apple(s) in the writing department and that’s a major issue taken care of.

They can’t write a decent all powerful being set to destroy the world story and you want them to try and tackle politics?

I totally agree that there needs to be more to the story than just the recycled Big Bad every expansion.

There’s already loads of possibilities ripe for the picking, but I just don’t think there’s enough talent on the writing team to run with it.

It could start out with something as simple as a merchant war between the Goblins and the Gnomes… each comes up with some QoL-changing invention that breaks up the existing factions into both new factions that form over the preferred tech (personal choice as opposed to loyalty to either Horde or Alliance), that back their choice of said invention, but also splintered groups who want to steal the tech of the opposite faction in order to merge the tech into something newer still, and have it build from there.

There could be supply chain and material wars. And rumors the other faction wants the tech to build a weapon, or give it mind-controlling abilities.

There are lots of possibilities with the existing lore, I just think the writers room at Blizz isn’t what it used to be when Metzen was there.

They’ve done it before, remove the tumor at the top who’s stuck them with Slyvanas fan fiction and put someone who’s willing to actually put effort in, and things would go smoother, yes.

The longer we have division on Azeroth the longer we have to wait for aliens to come and give us warp drive to let us explore the universe.

Unfortunate truth here, and a great story idea.

I’ve been very vocal about my opinion on Danuser, and hopefully microsoft will share that opinion and either bump him down, or remove him from the position entirely.

You gata remember they’ve stacked the office with bias people just to take the heat off of them with the court cases.

Nobody with a spine is going to be doing anything close to the kind of political intrigue you’re interested in.

If they do…it’ll just be their beliefs half barfed across the length and breadth of DFs story.

Vulpera belong in cages, performing tricks for treats and rewards.

But yeah, unfortunately they screwed the worgen there and instead of opting for talent, went for talking pieces to C.T.A.

I want racism in the factions, sexist characters, and what not.

But Activision is pretty high strung on pretending these aren’t real issues in any world.
