Why is blizz killing the image of Sylvanas

Umm… blizz has been killing her image since the start of at all. She has never worked alongside the horde, and has always used them for her own goals. At first she used them to kill Arthas, then she used them for tools.

Just seems sort of uncreative to “give her the old Garrosh treatment”. I hope it ends on a better note.

I wouldn’t hold your breath at this point. Frankly the Garrosh treatment would be the least bad outcome, in my opinion, simply because it gets her out of the way quickly so we can get back to an actual Horde story.

Yeah, but you’d have a lot of people who play forsaken fairly angry about such an outcome.

Garrosh 2.0, literally down to thrall coming back. I doubt Thrall will be the Warchief though, my money is on either Baine or possibly Saurfang.

1). Taking an unnecessary risk for little reward. She was one of the greatest tactical minded generals the world had ever known and nearly beat Arthas into submission. She nearly stopped the unstoppable horde of undeath without losing most of her forces needlessly. She was smart and cunning and knew how to play a battle. She should know better than to randomly throw men to the fire or make a powerful enemy by sending assassins to assassinate someone who isn’t opposed to her.

2). Randomly forgetting that Mulfurion was beaten and nearly dead at her feet. The whole reason for the invasion of Darkshore was to kill Mulfurion and as soon as Mulfurion could no longer fight, she walked away. Sylvanas isn’t the type of person to walk away when your goal is five feet in front of her and would have shot him herself instead of letting Saurfang, someone who had questionable loyalty and a ‘muh honur’ phase.

3). Not killing Baine on sight. Sylvanas has executed anyone disloyal to her on sight without a trial. That goes back to taking an unnecessary risk for little reward. Nothing good could have came out of a trial besides the chance for Baine to escape. When in the trial of Garrosh, Sylvanas wanted to executed Garrosh without a trial. That’s her character.

Blizzard has pulled a 180 on her character and changed her for the worse.

OK, sure, this was Sylvanas pre-Wrath but she’s been spiraling ever since. She’s died 3 times now and we don’t know what that does to a soul.

Not true. Show trials are popular for authoritarian states like the one Sylvanas wants to make because they’re persuasive. By putting Baine on trial, she would have the opportunity to prove to the Horde once and for all, extremely publicly, the extent of his crimes and that he deserves nothing but death. Simply executing him is not as persuasive - particularly to the tauren. Remember that Baine is a faction leader in his own right. He can’t simply be dismissed out of hand, not by a tyrant whose ambitions include being a tyrant tomorrow.

It’s worth pointing out at this juncture that the catalyst for the Darkspear Rebellion was Garrosh’s attempted summary execution of Vol’jin. Sylvanas knows this can turn on her if she doesn’t give them a show trial, because she’s been the one doing the turning.

Blizzard made her stupid. One of the problems with modern storytelling. They plan on a massive cinematic CGI moment then force the characters into these situations. Take the Safe Haven cinematic. They have two low level rogues attack Thrall and Saurfang. In reality the two rogues would have set the super dry wheat on fire. Engulfing the two Orcs in massive walls of flame. Cruel and calculating, but always plausible deniability. We didn’t set your fields on fire, they were a clear fire hazard. Glad to hear you escaped the fires.

Personally i think this move could actually be clever if played right.

The line of reasoning i have for what she did goes as followed

1 she believes that thrall returning to the horde is inevitable and something he is likely to do

So with that she decides to do with thrall’s return what she did with the war (which she also believes is inevitable) and have it happen on her terms.

So why send 2 guys who end up failing to kill thrall? Because
A: if she kills thrall it’s possible his spirit will contact horde shamans and she will anger the entire horde for murdering their founder when he didn’t do anything.

B: now she is in a position to drive a wedge between the rebel horde at a critical moment.

I think she will make it look like this was a trick done by saurfang to sow the seeds od distrust which based on posts like this seems to be working.

Later in the xpac I predict we will “discover evidence” that the 2 were working with saurfang to trick thrall this way Sylvannas is able to make the 2 fight eachother instead of her at a crucial moment.

Well, Blizzard might be claiming there is a big twist. But modern storytelling is saddled with poor storytelling trying to subverting your expectations. Which typically means a character acts totally outside their character development and really requires massive amount of coincidences.

Blizzard hasn’t claimed anything relating to a twist… in fact, at this point I wouldn’t expect anything outside of exactly what it looks like.

The great twist is… there is no twist, it’s a basic, low-effort rehash from a previous expansion.

No, they have made multiple claims that things are not what they seem. (another way to say twists.) Also the term engagement.

She’s become increasingly paranoid ever since she was betrayed during WotLK. Just look at how she treated Koltira. Imprisoned and tortured for years for daring to disobey her orders.

They also claimed we’d never guess who the next warchief would be after Garrosh… everyone knew it would be Vol’jin, and… it was Vol’jin.

They also claimed we’d “never guess” who burned teldrassil, the art showed Sylvanas, we all wanted it to be something else, and guess what…

They also wanted us to guess if Teldrassil or Undercity would happen first. That lasted about half an hour before someone accidentally leaked that Teldrassil would happen first.

Boom! Drop that knowledge. Good stuff. I was all pro-Sylvanas before this expansion but I quickly realized my Sylvanas waifu love was mostly because I wasn’t paying that much attention to her. They’ve been laying the threads of who Sylvanas is for a long time.

And, btw, without Jaina’s deus ex, Sylv would have ended the war at Lordaeron. She needed to provoke the Lordaeron attack by any means, that’s why she burned Teldrassil. Since then she’s been mostly seat of the pantsing it. She couldn’t have known the Zandalari would be so ready to help out.

Due to the nature of MMOs there has been a bit of faffing about between major plot points, but overall the characters are acting according to their established motivations.

Ah cmon, do you have no imagination, no sense of wonder. Of course, people figure things out before they happen. There’s millions of people playing the game and thousands pouring over every little clue. Just because some people figure it out doesn’t mean it wasn’t surprising if you weren’t following all the hype.

Point was, its as linear and obvious as it looks.

It sucks, wish this weren’t the case, but hoping for any sort of nuance or twist is pretty pointless.
