Is sacrificing single target builds on bosses who also are getting buffed, really worth AoE oriented builds purely for trash?
Obvious yes? Trash makes up 90% of the dungeon lmao.
The real OG’s pump on trash AND bosses
Trash is probably the most challenging part of most M+ runs.
…Yes? I don’t understand, since most of the dungeon is trash lol
95% of a dungeon is trash and the entire dungeon is on a timer so burning down the trash is far more important than the bosses.
Honestly it’s like that starting from your first dungeon at level 15. Fall asleep healing boss fights, burst heal in a panic fighting trash, and always grateful when a DPS goes ham on AoE during a hectic pull.
This is a main reason I find M+ worse now than in legion. Nowadays all these hot shots spamming aoe spells mindlessly ignoring interrupts and purges has gotten ridiculous. On that note instead of capping aoe spells how about design dungeons in a more interesting way. Have a few pulls that if you aoe you wipe your group etc so maybe folks will think more about what “TYPE” of damage spells they should be using and where.
In most dungeons (mythic or not) trash is worse than the bosses, and killing trash fast (while thinking about affixes) is important. You spend a lot more time on trash than bosses, so building for trash makes sense.
Blizz is trying to infect WoW with the diablo virus.
Resist!
This kid doesn’t understand why speeding up 90% of the content is better than speeding up 10% of it lol.
It’s funny when people say bosses are the easy part yet every tyrannical week is a dead week for pushing.
But to the OP more aoe helps bigger pulls, etc.
Also the question would be, how much single target dps are you giving up to go with an aoe build? If your group normally does 80k average single target but now are doing 60k, yeah the boss will go down slower but not that much slower - after all boss fights are pretty quick as is.
Trash will always be the biggest timesave in dungeons. Trash also ultimately has the most health in the dungeon when combining all of it. It’s like a 60:40 ratio at worst in the most egregious Tyrannical dungeons of all, and on Fortified weeks and in more traditional Tyrannical dungeons it’s like an 85:15 ratio of trash to bosses.
You can’t pull two bosses and shorten your dungeon but you can pull three or four or five or six packs and drastically save time. And you need damn good AoE to kill those packs before your tank runs out of resources.
I don’t think it would be the worst thing to de-emphasize trash difficulty and make bosses more of a challenge by themselves. Kind of like what dungeons are, mini raids.
I’d say having 1 dps that does ok aoe but amazing single target damage is worth bringing if your other 2 dps have great aoe
Yeah because people didnt spam AOE in Legion, hell in Legion M+ were more idiotic with the tactic of tank high aggro and kiting all the mobs so DPS could mindlessly AOE.
This is already a thing.
Since a huge part of M+ rank 3 timing involves pulling multiple packs which means you’re now dealing with a large group of very beefy high damage mobs; so yes, high aoe damage focus makes sense, even if you sacrifice some single target dps for it. In the long run, taking a few extra minutes on a boss is worth it provided you were able to blast down 10+ mobs in less than a minute.
Because no one bothers with “doing the fight correctly”. It’s the whole ZERG ZOMG!! method. I got called a bad tank on the King Gob in Junkyard during Nerco week because the dps didn’t bother to do the pylons…every add put a stack on me. I finally let the warrior DPS get threat so I could drop stacks and he lost his mind.
Doing four packs at once in the same amount of time as one pack tends to save time.
