Truer words have never been spoken about the priest leader of the Alliance. He's such a weak leader. He needs to get married to Taelia or Tess and then be at home with the baby while his wife leads.

Part of it he, and many others, don’t see it as fighting the Horde so much as fighting Sylvanas. To him, she’s the biggest obstacle to peace. He believes I’d she is removed as warcheif, then the war will end. Bit naive at this point but I can see the train of thought.
The Alliance has to remain the incompetent cartoon good guys in order to balance the roller coaster of oddness and stupidity that is the Horde.
With way the story has progressed so far, I don't think that Anduin can want anything but peace. Yes, he is a priest character and desiring peace is within that sphere, but he's also proven to be completely inept.
The Siege of Lordaeron was a complete failure for him, even with Genn there to assist the Alliance was set to suffer a crushing defeat until Jaina arrived to save the day.
Yes, this story is at the mercy of the writers and there is no way they can write a clear winner to this war or the game collapses. The fact is though that Jaina seems to be the only competent Alliance commander, and she can't be everywhere at once. There is no option other than peace with Alliance leadership in the state they are written in.

This is why Alliances are not Hereditary Monarchies.
And why Genn, Tyrande, Mechatorque, or Magni should be leading the Alliance.
Anduin simply doesn't have the experience. And war is not the time to get needed experience.
