Why is addon like restedXP allowed by blizzard?

limited free version does not mean it isn’t a paid addon :expressionless:

Imagine paying for an addon in wow. I say let the players pay for it. We can all laugh at them in secret. You shouldn’t be jealous of the people buying add-ons. You should be laughing at them.

Because streamers are making bank and Classic gets most of it’s free hype/advertising from Streamers

But as you have already been told.

The guides you load into the addon are a service related to the addon. These premium guides are sold by the developer of the addon which violates the rule.

Additionally, you mention the default guides it comes with. That causes RXP to be in violation of part pertaining to premium versions of the addon. Those 1-60 guides are additional features.

No amount of copium you can huff will change the fact that RXP blatantly violates the paid addon rule. Blizzard just doesn’t have the integrity to pursue it.

I like RestedXP but yeah, it’s pretty clear right there… seems pretty against TOS. I’m surprised they haven’t banned it.

Technically is does. You don’t have to go to their website for the add-on to work. Donations are not against tos.

you are incorrect :expressionless: the ToS makes it clear that that workaround is not allowed

Legally donations are not purchases. They fall in the gift category. It’s how private servers legally gain money to run the server. The tos still falls under the law

As I have mentioned before. Its probably a case of Blizzard accepting it because enriches a players experience and has no negative impact on other players.

Putting youtube speed runs on 2nd screen better anyway kek then you can copy how they move how they pull the exact walking paths etc.

Blizzard has actioned paid weak-aura packs in the past which invalidates your argument. Weak aura is free. The packs were not. RestedXP is free, some of the guides are not. This is not a legitimate distinction.

Also, nowhere does RestedXP refer to the charge as a “donation”, that verbiage is nowhere on their website. Numerous twitch streamers even have “codes” to get a discount on the charge. I’ve never heard of using a discount code to “donate” to a charity.

You’re completely incorrect. The reason RestedXP is being allowed to continue is purely due to Blizzard selectively enforcing the TOS. Why, is anyone’s guess.

that explains everything :expressionless: streamers rule blizzard. simple as

You dont have to be a genius to figure out why. Its good for the leveling experience and not detrimental to other players.

seeing people automatically spam a restxp advertisement at every level is detrimental to my experience :expressionless:

RestedXP allows blizzard to pull in new players who are daunted by the leveling process when they see their favorite streamer doing it.

Thousands of players make WA and charge others for UI packages and other things. Who cares? Don’t use it if it upsets you. The addon hurts literally no one. Stop being such a Karen.

Thousands of people sell.gold for real money too. It doesn’t affect you, you’re not forced to buy it. Don’t be a Karen

Where do you draw the line?

Its not against ToS, mainly because it’s sold as a non essential guidebook, just like how they used to make paper walkthroughs and guides for old video games, and its free until level 20. I’ve never used it, though, this druid will be my 4th level 60 in hardcore, and I know the safest route and where to go when for me.

“Free until” indicates a not-free version.

The paid portions contain zero new features or addon additions. At no point are you purchasing additional functionality. You are purchasing a compiled, organized database that you did not compile or organize. Why should that be free?
