The pre-rendered stuff is passable, not great, but passable however the actual in-engine rendered stuff is…exceptionally bad. I feel like I’m watching someones Warcraft 3 mod, watching Sylvanas try to shoot her bow was like looking at an early student project.
Because the patch wasn’t finished when Blizzard released it.

I think the cutscenes look good except everyone appears to be talking in slow motion for no real reason other than there’s no proper talking animations.
Everyone loved it. Stop trying to act cool.
Watching the winter queen talk in those cutscenes freak me out because it looks like her jaw wasn’t designed for that in the animation process
Which is a bit silly because the cutscene where everyone is captured ( again ) by the jailer and Anduin does that big light thing early in the expansion are fine. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if they combined a in game thing with something more refined. Since our character is off in the background. But the mouth animations and expressions don’t look jank
I hate the talking animations. Way too exaggerated. I don’t care if it was like that in Warcraft 3(it sucked then too and became a meme).
I think that in general the cinematics this expansion are good.
Well, I’m comparing to the BfA ones that were absolute garbage. I remember the final Horde council where Thrall talked and he moved the mouth like a regular orc npc in Orgrimmar. No lip sync at all.
Or the one in Zuldazar where Baine is yelling at Sylvanas but since they used the default talking animation he’s freaking smiling for some of the mouth movements
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure that scene is actually the only in-engine cutscene that has proper lip animations. Everything before and after uses what are effectively mixtapes of the model’s talk/yell/gesture emote animations.
I just assumed we got the Chinese dub animation because it wasn’t profitable enough to make two.

Theres usually 2 sets of cutscenes, there’s the one that take center stage and then you have the secondary ones. You look at the fight between Syl an Tyr it has very good facial animations and lip sync. Both chars portray well what they are thinking, feeling and saying.
Then you get the next cutscene where they use in game emotes from 1999 for Jainas dialogue.
I actually cringed so hard watching the facial animations on Jaina when she was watching Anduin yoink the Night Fae sigil.
It’s amazing that Blizzard had so many months to animate this but the end result still looks like a rushed mess.
Put cinematic controlled Anduin ( Where he stabs the Archon ) next to how he looked in Ardenweald when he turns and faces the camera briefly as he walks into a portal and it’s basically this
They’ve been working on making it better lately. Especially with the Anduin/Jailer cutscene at the end of the Maw intro.
In general for some reason the Jailer’s animations have actually matched up really well this expac.
And can we talk about Sylvanas flying in straight out of MS Paint to shoot the last Winter Queen illusion?
The animations were just bad. I feel like they could do better. I feel like they have done better.

Overall, the cut scene isn’t up to their usual standards, though the S vs T fight section is. Honestly I’m surprised it didn’t warrant a full CGI section.
