Why in the heck do essences cost 2500!?

No, seriously, WHY? I am so frustrated with this that I am actually here posting because god knows it’s not gonna change anything but just gah!

I just got back into the game after a break, guild fell apart, burnt out on BFA. So the echos were a nice touch to get my alts caught up, like my stabby little rogue here.

I log in today and hadn’t bothered reading anything or checking up stuff, just go do my emissary and when it rewarded 250 essences I was like “Holy crap, that’s awesome! I can get my warlock and mage and lots of classes I want to play essences up in no time!”

I go to the heart because I have 500, and I click on Mother and just… just why?

I already did the grind for these before. There’s no new ‘world first’ coming, their going to be useless when shadowland launches, and yet I would be better off doing the actual grind for these things alongside the grind for the echos. I did it once already and I didn’t play my alts because good lord that grind sucked and yet now, here Blizz is taking a whiz in my cheerios and just for what purpose!?

Like, why? This is uncalled for, these aren’t game breaking, their not going to ruin anything, just let us have what we worked for. I’m okay with doing a grind for these, seriously, first I have to unlock the rank 3 on a character right? I put the work in already. Why lock the catch up mechanic behind a month of work? It makes zero sense.

Honestly BFA is just, soul crushing and this is just sucked any of the fun I was having coming back right out of it. The essence grind is a nightmare, it’s alt-unfriendly and just stinks of desperation to keep people subbed and playing constantly. I feel unmotivated to touch any alt, and now less so because once again, what’s the point?

“Oh you can play without essences!” Yeah, I can also play my warlock as a melee character, doesn’t mean it’s optimal. My argument is I put the work in and I’m willing to put a little more work in to get these on my alts, but not that much work. So thanks for sucking the fun back out of this Blizz, good job.

Buddy, relax.
The cost was increased by 5, but so was the amount you earn.
It’s effectively an irrelevant change.

They only increased the costs because of the new vendor.

They didn’t need too though.

Again, tell me what it hurts to be able to get my alts the essences I already earned? Why the spike in price? The new vendor has nothing to do with essences for alts.

2500 is insane for a catch up mechanic. Even if I do every Emissary cache a week, and all the LFR Nylotha, I will only get 2250 A WEEK. That’s not even ONE essence for an alt for all that grinding after a WEEK.

I just don’t understand it. It’s not fun, it’s just busy work. Like, I’m so frustrated right now, this is beyond stupid and part of why I quit awhile back in the first place.

And a whopping 18 hours notice here on the forums before the change.

TBH the price wasnt even remotely a good idea but increase to the amount you get as a reward would have made it a success 2 emissary boxes get a rank 3 that would be a catch up.

Look, I agree that they just came out of nowhere with this system and alt catch ups are fine, but to say 2500 is insane is just ridiculous because it’s literally equivalent to what 500 was 24 hours ago.

You’re getting angry at no change, not at bad change.

I said it before - if Blizzard came on and said they were giving everyone a free month to their sub, somebody would leap on and complain it wasn’t two months.

They see one part of the post but don’t bother to read or think of the implications of the rest. I see it so often on these forums.

Easy. Time played metrics. The first, in their mind, adds nothing to their all-powerful time played metrics. The second adds much to the grinding time played metrics.

If Blizz would just make their game fun like they used to, the time played metrics would take care of themselves and they wouldn’t need to resort to chicanery.

Okay Altash, fair, yes it was a week+ 1day per essence before. But what frustrates me is the sudden increase in currency rewarded when I had zero clue that the essences wouldn’t just stay the same. I feel bushwhacked.

No change is the same as bad change, again, these aren’t game breaking. The work has to be done to unlock them, so why lock them behind a week of grind?

I logged in blind, didn’t read any notes, didn’t check any changes. I’m more mad because I feel tricked that surprise as you put it, nothing changed, the fact it’s still locked behind a week+1 is just, it’s stupid. It really is stupid. I don’t understand why the bother with the increase at all? In the amount you get and in the amount of cost, why not just make the cost of the new vendor equivalent.

It’s like opening a Christmas present to find it was just a really big box and the item was the same size as the box before it.

They definitely could’ve given more notice. They did communicate, but it was done with less than 24 hours headsup on these dead forums.

How, in all seriousness, can you concievably feel “tricked” when you admit you failed at due diligence?

If the information was available, it was a failure on your part to read it.

That being said, while I disagree with the increase, I’d bet dollars to donuts that like so many other currencies sitting dusty on our tabs, the increase is a means to sink essences without them accumulating.

Really complaining about nothing here when the amount of Echoes we’re receiving is x5 the amount before. Get over it.

Artificially making you play the game more. That is the only reason I can think of as to why they do half the garbage decisions they make.

I stayed up until morning going through all my alts to make sure all of them had bought all the essences they could afford, only to find they won’t be getting echoes anymore.

Too be fair, I’m human. I’m also just getting back into this is a casual player Huggywuggles. No guild, no raids, no real reason for me to go seeking out the change text, no motivation too as at this point I’m just wasting time waiting for my job to come back.

I still stand by feeling tricked. Going in blind and seeing all these echos pop up as a reward made me really damn happy, and then going to Mother and seeing the increase, well, yeah. There isn’t a lot of things to be happy about right now, so this was kind of a damn kick in the nuts.

On no no no. Nobody tell him!

I’m a casual as well. What does that have to do with it? You’re recieving more per reward so the increase is all but negligible.

Your argument is like a public attorney railing about loosing a case because they’re fresh out of law school.

The information is there. You just didn’t want to check it out. That is a failure on your part-casual or not-to obtain available information.

How ironic you would say this.

I don’t understand why this was done at all? If you get five times as many, but need to spend five times as much…
