Why I'm buying Shadowlands

Hate to say it, but I think you missed the point on all three.

Those are subjective points though. In my opinion, neither leveling nor class fantasy are better in Classic than they are in modern WoW. Leveling in classic is such a boring grind - I’m not sure why it can be considered better, particularly when the end-game doesn’t revolve around leveling at all.

CS is a completely different genre compared to WoW. For starters, WoW has ALWAYS run on a subscription model. Do you think WoW would still have the subscriber base it has today if the game didn’t change much since 2004?

If people can’t admit flying does damage to the game it’s not worth discussing anything with them. It does damage the game, it’s not the worst thing in the world and it can be worked around, but at the end of the day if you try to make the argument that flying doesn’t empty out the world and reduce player interaction you’re just jealously guarding a convenience you don’t want to give up.

Why I’m buying Shadowlands?

Because I wanted to, that’s why!

Tell me how did flying damage the game in BC and Wrath?

Paying?? I have been playing for free since WoD

I still haven’t bought Shadowlands. My wife and I listened to the hype machine and came back with a one month subscription to see what Activision and their employees have been making. The problem is that when you do business with a known bad company, you have only yourself to blame when it all goes to hell and you find yourself with months of wasted time. So basically it has been one month to find out : have they changed? They seem like the same people as last time using marketing and ‘influencers’ more effectively than before. Right now , after watching lots of videos and reading, I’m thinking let Shadowlands be out a month and check back. Only the organized raiders and rated PvPers feel time pressure to be busy on day one.

Oh god I remember the moment I saw people flying around, just skipping over each other, zipping from point A to B, WPvP was forced into only taking place around some very poorly done objectives. The game felt empty, I ended up quitting very quickly after hitting level cap and getting a flying mount, many of my friends did as well. We enjoyed world content and at the time getting over how dramatically flying mounts had damaged it caused many guilds on my server to vanish.

Oh so it didn’t hurt the game at all.

This didn’t happen because of flying. Guilds didn’t just up and vanish because of flying.

I don’t think i’m going to let you tell me what my experiences were.

Because it’s anecdotal and you’d be in the EXTREME minority?

I understand you’re jealously guarding a convenience you don’t want to give up but again if you can’t acknowledge the damage flying mounts have done to the game you’re just living in a different reality.

I’ve said a thousand times I don’t think it’s the worst thing that’s happened to community, but it is a negative impact non the less.

Like honestly, think about this logically, you really think people being able to fly over one another and zip from point A to B doesn’t reduce player interaction? You have to be willingly ignorant to disagree with this.

People hated WOD because of the lack of content. In terms of raid design, it was one of my favorite.
Highmaul was a little boring. But still fun to do.
BRF had some of the coolest designed boss fights I have ever done.

Finally nice to see some woke here.

I’m not buying it till I see results. I never bought wod or mop. But I bought Legion and for some reason they got me to buy BFA, hmm I wonder why
Couldn’t put my finger on that
Maybe I was expecting too much, since I actually liked Legion decent enough.

How the heck they have so many sales for SL is beyond me.

WTF? What happened? It should be tanking or being refunded by now. Yet here are people even with ye ole’ faith of the good days buying SL before it’s even out.

What was it about BFA that sold SL ahead of time?

The speed of actually leveling up aside, I find it better because the mobs provide an actual threat even if they’re not super difficult, and I think even with the Shadowlands changes that Classic still provides a better reward structure for leveling up.

Leveling was an important part of the game in Classic whereas in Shadowlands they’ve just left it to rot for several years and attempted a quick fix of a level squish and making it barely take any time to level so people don’t have to put up with it for long.

Also I mentioned Counter-Strike not because I think WoW should mimic it, but to point out that good gameplay is eternal.

Also yes, I imagine they’d have a significant subscriber base if they kept the Vanilla->WotLK era gameplay. Classic WoW brought about the single largest subscriber increase during a quarter and was a massive success for them even in 2019.

It just has longevity issues due to no new content being developed for it, and all the existing endgame content having been theorycrafted to death.

Legion is awesome. It is what got me back to WoW after Cata

Flying was the number one most requested feature going into BC. We got it and the game absolutely exploded in popularity. Again not because of flying but having that freedom to truly explore the world helped a lot.

No it’s not.

I’ve seen just as many people flying as I do on the ground. I have another fact for you, not many people gives a fluff about wpvp. Most people don’t even have WM on and half that do only do it for the bonuses.

Mighty strong statement for such a terrible opinion.

The quality of interaction degraded dramatically and it plummeted even more with the LFG/LFR.

I disagree. I was around for all of BC and wrath and it was the peak of wow.
