Why I think SoD failed

sometimes you gotta know when to cut your losses :expressionless:

They’re doing a horrible job “cutting losses” when they’re doubling down for another year of SoD.

yeah but it’s in maintenance mode :expressionless:

that’s the irony though… if they just did a whole lot less with this skeleton crew, SoD would have been far better received :expressionless: with classic, less is always more.

Is it? Because I constantly see complaints that there’s not enough new stuff. Or people whining that they don’t want to do MC they want to do new content. “Wen Scarlet Crusade raid”, “wen Karazhan raid”. Not that I disagree with those I do want Scarlet Crusade and Karazhan raids but also it’s kind of unusual that people are so anti-MC when this version of MC is the first time I’ve actually had fun in MC .

From people who shouldn’t be catered to.

Which is why sod is where it is now. These players are actually looking for an entirely new game without even realizing it, a completely new expansion or what have you

maybe if they didn’t spend so much time on their horrible rune system, they would have had the opportunity to make new dungeons/raids, which I agree is what classic+ players actually wanted :expressionless: (and I mean NEW, not repurposed BFD and gnomeregan)

Like i agree, but classic was made great by the fact tons of people were living it professionally.

If you want more content, expanded itemization, a rune system, all of that takes not only imagination creation but also hundreds of hours of refinement.

A cubicle worth of devs paying attention to SoD every monday of the week aint that.

don’t want that one :expressionless:
making runes the sole focus of SoD is a big reason why it failed

If you change what you wrote to,

“Making horribly implemented and balanced rune system”

Then i agree.

they don’t need “runes” at all :expressionless: just add a few new skills to the trainers.

Smart changes is really the operative word. Paladin Taunt = Good. Incursions = Bad. There are some really good concepts in SoD if they cherry pick them for Classic+.

If they lean into a “more content in the world, small class tweaks” philisophy they could do something great with classic+. Ironically people mostly want new areas, quests, dungeons and raids to do.

You deliver that well and you already won the playerbase over.

When did it fail? Still playing it daily.

cope :expressionless: by that logic SoM never failed either.

Just looking at some of your posts, hope you find a game you enjoy! Good luck!

What you define as failure isnt what Microsofts activision sub colony blizzard defines as a failure.

It could just be up still because ol billies kid or something likes the nostalgia.

If your point is “they are making profit therefore nothing they do is wrong” ok :expressionless:

Personally sod is 1000% better then og classic. People need to realize as its been said in dev interviews, SOD is a TESTING GROUND… Its testing the waters for the next " Big" move

Yes.

If thats their metric then thats their metric.

I dare say a billion dollar company doesnt gaf if you like their metric, nor wether you use emojis to show that.

Here’s the thing… people wanted Brawl Plus. Which is to say, they wanted a fun thing that was imbalanced to become balanced and fun. Bring Warriors down a bit, bring Boomies Dps Shaman Prot Pally etc up.

What we got was Brawl Minus. “If it ain’t broke, break it. If it’s broken, break it even more”. The original spirit of Brawl was thrown out the window and replaced with coke-infused versions of every character, just absolutely degenerate gameplay mechanics that stopped resembling the game they wanted to play.

Brawl Minus is a fun toy that opens you up to the world of modded Brawl but ultimately what you really want is either Brawl Plus, Project M, or some version of the game that “feels” like the game you want to play but improved.
