dude…the toxicity of the FF fanbase is know. All you gotta do is criticize the game or the devs and they’ll come out in either a frothing rage or passive-aggressive attacks
I’ll say I have barely touched that game, it didn’t grab me and I’m put off by the idea of having to play for a ton of hours to get to where it gets good.
But speaking just from being around the internet, the vocal FF14 fandom is pretty damn toxic. I’ve seen tons of people pulling out idiots from over a decade ago (the time I’m remembering was the idiots who crashed the funeral service way back when) and then just blanket label the whole playerbase as those people. It’s a different kind of toxic, but which one is worse depends on who you are. Personally, I can let a git gud or you suck roll off my back, it’s just about the game, but when people start getting personal with the insults and implying that I’m a bad person because I’m in a group of players of a massively played game, that’s worse to me, it’s taking a past time and morally judging people for it.
And the reactions to criticism always come off as over the top from someone on the outside. If it was reserved to meaningless attacks that’d be one thing, but it just seems rather kneejerk if someone points something bad out that there’s some reason it’s wrong. But again, that’s just the really vocal group that seems stuck at 11 (and on these forums for some reason. Shoo! go enjoy your own game’s community!)
Name one crafting profession in FF14 where you craft things that directly affect your gameplay, beyond basic food buffs, dps boost potion or “current armor set/weapon”
FF14 has nothing on the consumables, trinkets, crafted effects, engineering stuff and etc that WoW can craft. Part of that is due to its boring and standard itemisation, it doesn’t allow for much ‘extra’ in what you can craft either.
I’m sure, dude. I’ve been having nothing but positive experiences on my realm so far, to me this sounds like nonsense. Meanwhile the toxicity of the FF14 is well known as well, you’re not fooling anyone. You guys go rabid in your defense of yoshi-p and the game. The fact that many of you flood other forums just to tell them their game sucks and that FF14 is better isn’t a great look either.
Name one thing you can craft that directly affects your gameplay…oh, but you can’t include gear, because that obviously affects your gameplay more than anything else and is worthless in WoW but really useful in FF14. Give me a break
(Oh, for the record, there are also consumables, orchestrion rolls, etc. that you can craft in FF14.)
Gear is something that WoW has too, if you’re gonna mention that through crafting then you’re gonna lose by default because the itemization is worse for FFXIV with nothing but bland stats and no effects or anything to the weapons and armor.
So…
Orchestrion rolls =/= gameplay, and your consumables are only basic dps boost as mentioned. Again, not anything gameplay affecting on the level of what you can craft from WoW crafting professions.
The only crafted gear in WoW for new expacs (which is inferior to practically anything you can pick up from quests and doesn’t help with catch-up after the first patch)…umm…hate to break it to you…but it doesn’t have any effects or anything, either. FF14 adds new ranks of crafted gear as new patches are released that help people catch up to the latest content.
I think we may have identified a sticking point. Games like FF14 and WoW are RPG’s (or at least, they’re supposed to be). The random tchotchkes you can make in FF14, the orchestrion rolls, etc…they all get used as part of RPG gameplay (you know, the genre you’re actually playing). If the only thing you’re looking to do is run M+ up the wazoo, then you won’t find those things “gameplay,” but then you’re not playing an RPG, either, you’re doing esports. For people actually playing an RPG, the crafting in FF14 is immense.
Oh please, you’re so full of it. You know very well WoW crafting is about more than mythic plus stuff, you can craft toys, silly effect consumables, leveling gear, mounts (FFXIV has the ability to craft a few mounts too I know) things that may be useful in the world such as waterbreathing/other stuff and the list goes on really.
You also only seem to consider retail WoW by mentioning mythic as if that’s the only thing WoW crafting matters for, which isn’t even true for that as mentioned but there’s also TBC classic and WoW classic to consider these days considering they are part of the same sub.
And if we’re gonna talk “RPG” I find your argument quite dishonest, FFXIV is far more limited in its open world and a lot more restrictive when it comes to things like this. Calling WoW ‘esports’ is just dumb, when in FFXIV you can’t even die from things like falling damage, its raiding environment is far less ‘immersive’ and RPG like with you just teleporting into boss rooms instead of doing things like assaulting an entire fortress and confronting the big baddies. All it has going for it for the RPG feel is that it has better narrative design and maybe allows your characters to emote more. It barely gives you incentive to even go out into the open world to do stuff, especially if you already finished your beast tribes because at that point all you have left is maybe 20 seconds of a hunt whenever that gets announced which is just you teleporting over there and waiting for the zerg to kill it.
You will never for example craft engineering rocket boots and find you can escape that opposing faction member that was looking to gank you, because FFXIV doesnt craft stuff like that nor does it even have open world pvp.
You will never for example obtain a poison aoe trinket that comes in high use for your tanking after going through something like the sunken temple and finding out the nightmare is affecting the green dragons there, with the option to turn in this trinket if you want to try and save this green dragon. Because FFXIV has nothing like that sort of itemisation nor does it have remotely challenging content when it comes to dungeons, the only dungeon I can think off being one of your oldest ones where you get a hint of this open design threat being Aurum Vale where that first room is slightly more open than the usual hallway design and has actual extra mobs you want to try and avoid.
Etc etc, plenty of examples to be had in WoW gear and WoW crafting that FFXIV simply does not have.
Final Fantasy XIV crafting classes also allow you to craft furniture for housing, armor for glamours, orchestrion rolls, potions for those buffs; then they also have actual progression lines through their own story quests, beast tribes, and Ishgardian Restoration which is a server-wide effort that had been ongoing since 5.1 that was building up the next housing district.
Let’s not even get into the aspect of crafting high-end gear that sells for ludicrous amounts of Gil on the market board with each patch cycle.
I would argue that not having third party addons is still no reason to have such dull encounters. HArd mode is meant to be hard, not a guarantee that everyone will complete it. That’s what easy modes are for. But there are a lot of players out there who prefer games without challenge so FF14 is right up their alley.
I also like a DPS meter when playing because it’s a good tool to have. And the excuse I’ve heard of it creating a toxic environment is B.S. Players are the ones that bring toxicity to an environment, not the other way around.
Lmao funny how everyone arguing about raid difficulty conveniently compares Savage to Mythic, and forgets that singular Ultimate fights take as many pulls to clear as 10-11 boss Mythic wings. I play both WoW and FF actively but sorry, if you think FF fights are dull, dare you to go clear Dragonsong Ultimate right now
