If Night Elves are so great (which they really are), why does it seem like a majority of people play Horde?
I play Horde, but my favorite class, Druid, has races that I really can’t get into thematically. The only race I really like to play on Horde is Blood Elves. I thought I would like Nightborne, but after a very short while I lost interest in them too.
Anyone else feel the same way or wonder why Horde enjoys what seems to be a majority of the player base?
it’s almost always a gameplay reason, since many of the players that cared about fantasy are long gone by now.
many players switch to horde for so many reasons other than aesthetic…player skill, better pvp coordination, faster group assembly just to name a few relevant ones.
I think NE is still probably the most popular race individually though. (we are the best after all)
They have orcs. I just like orcs as a race in a lot of RPGs, ranging from WoW, D&D, ESO, etc.
The tusks and intimidating appearance is just cool. Especially cool when they can be portrayed as sophisticated while still having a brutish appearance.
Horde racials were historically OP for a long time and Blizzard usually takes their sweet time to fix them (Troll Racials, Goblin Jumps) while when it comes to Alliance they are usually fixed ASAP. This led to top guilds switching over for obvious advantages for min maxing and their fans followed.
Blizzard’s famous devs like Metzen have openly mocked the Alliance multiple times while ensuring the Horde gets to be in the spotlight in events like Blizzcon despite claiming to play Alliance.
Over time, the phrase of “The Horde is cooler” went from a lie told by a 2 year old to pretty much the truth today because right now thanks to obvious promotion from devs and in game advantages in previous expansions, the player base has shifted so far that now people prefer to go Horde because of a larger playerbase.
You should try a tauren druid. They’re very fun and very, very cute.
I play horde mostly, after playing both factions because I find the horde has a more family type feel to it.
Good people on both factions, I just prefer horde.
I would really, really prefer to play Alliance races and at least experience the storyline once, but Blizzard says I wouldn’t be able to play with my friends for some reason nobody understands.
I felt the exact same way as you and it’s why I faction changed from horde to Alliance.
The Horde cities are a dump except for Thunder Bluff. I just got sick of the way the horde story plays out all this internal conflict made me constantly feel like my faction was unstable lore wise. Sadly The Horde is highly unstable they would go to war with each other if they had no external conflict. If the alliance Had No One external to fight they would just be getting drunk on Dwarven beer. The alliance story always plays out much better in my opinion. There is nothing stable about the horde
Also as a side note in my experience people are far less toxic and just overall in general a lot nicer on Alliance
