Why High Elves Don't Work: A Primer

Isn’t that the one where its revealed there’s a heavy Cult of the Damned force infiltrating the Alliance and they’re the reason it all went like that?

I’m 90% that was what they were going with but it has been over a decade since I last did that questline

I think this should be less about why “High elves wouldn’t work” and more about how “Allied Races don’t work” because they don’t.
Stop being blind, Blizzard made the allied race system so they didn’t have to create NEW and unique races to add.
And more about the Allied races- They should be like Pandaren. A allied race should choose it’s own side, and not be a forced decision.

High Elves don’t work. I am a Void Elf, not a High Elf. Once upon a time, before I was transformed I was a High Elf. Later after the Third War we renamed ourselves as the Blood Elves, but no physical changes occurred to me then.

But now I am a Void Elf. I am not a High Elf or a Blood Elf any longer. This is because the Void has fundamentally transformed me into something more akin to an ethereal. I am basically void energy that is contained within a physical temple.

If you want to be a non-void infused Elf, that is the Blood Elves aka the High Elves. If you want a Kaldorei variant, rejoice for the Horde has the Nightborne. Having served it for a long time, I promise that Horde will appreciate you joining their cause.

Speaking personally however, why would you want to not want transcend into this glorious gorgonian visage? I mean look at me! I give Queen Azshara and Lady Vashj a run for their money now!

Hopefully that clarified things! ^^

The only Allied races that really made sense as allied races were imo:

  • Void Elves

  • Nightborne

  • Vulpera

  • Zandalari Trolls (Unique skeleton from regular Trolls)

  • Kul Tirans (unique skeleton from regular humans)

Lightforged, Maghars, Mechagnomes and HMT should have been Subrace/customization options. Dark Iron Dwarves are cool but I think they would be better as a subrace in all honesty. Assuming they still got their amazing heritage armor.

The Draenei allied race should have without question been Krokuul/Broken. The Lightforged Heritage armor could have just been the Draenei’s heritage armor with 2 different recolors. Purple for standard draenei and a golden option if you were using the Lightforged customizations.

High elves are too white and that is wrong. It’s 2020 We should be progressing away from allowing white physical characteristics and cultural folklore being portrayed in a positive light.

Further, blood elves could do with some diversity injection or made more evil if left how they are.

Yes but… your green.

Ease off of the Vitamin K man.

If they had given Void Elves to the Horde I might have race changed my Blood Elf. :heart_eyes_cat:

Void Elves could’ve been customization too imo. The fantasy of being a Blood Elf shadow priest was already available on the Horde, could’ve had a quest tied to it similar to warlock’s green fire

Probably. I doubt all those who were shouting about how the scourge murdered their families instantly forgave the death knights

then play void elf?

Sure, but that hasn’t been explicitly stated.

Otherwise, the current Horde and Death Knights are a different thing. People move on after a war and the Orcs that invaded no longer run the show. The only reason to hate orcs is racism. If Alliance high elves were made playable, there is no way to avoid that narrative.

They couldnt because Void Elves were made for Alliance.

What kind of pc racist bullcrap is this?

YES!
Gets it!
So…what’s you point?

Keeping Alliance high elves blonde hair and blue eyed only was a very common argument made.

But he had to bring real life racism to the conversation? Rediculous!

There actually is a bit of that. A while ago there was a good deal of clown meme sharing in an off-the-forums community. Even that aside, what is the Alliance high elf story really and who should it appeal to?

It is a group that has decided it is different from and looks down on most of their own people - over an arbitrary difference. They abandoned and even attacked them. In addition to the arbitrary difference, it is over an Alliance to orcs, because they don’t like orcs due to something a different group of orcs did a long time ago. A group of these pro Alliance high elves got away with war crimes… ect.

Could’ve been customization for Blood Elves, is what I was implying

And then where would they be? They would be stuck with bland, boring High Elves.

And no one wants that. :smiling_imp:

Except for the helfers.
