Why High Elves Don't Work: A Primer (Part 1)

You are clearly an orc though.

Yeah. Blizz in most of the things I’ve seen say high elves are available on the horde but anything is possible.

With blizz still using high elves even into BfA its still a valid request I think.

That said I don’t think they’ll do it.

Maybe roll some customization into void elves… Hopefully with story to explain it.

Edit: accidentally put alliance instead of horde. Lol

I think technically I’m a human.

Haha that video, purposeful avoidance of the issue. Really, it seems more of a… we don’t want to go in that direction. Skirt the issue. That probably all this will ever be too.

I’d be more likely to stick around if they did give a definitive answer. And high elf fans aren’t feeling that great right now.

Now that is a solution I am completely alright with. This is in part why I keep saying:

“Can we like turn the Alliance High Elves into Void Elves”?

Are you? You look like an orc.

there was an interview with ion before legion where he suggested high elves and maghar , as possible subraces. in other words, the allied race idea in its infancy.

then this interview

i think i have isolated one of his maybes

anythings possible in the future, but no plans in the near term to add high elves as a playable race.

now he knew how long people had been waiting for that and how excited the community was about the allied races, and people had linked his pre-legion interview where he says something like… and whether that means high elves or brown orcs, its something our artists get really excited about. so naturally they all go into the allied race requests for legion, thinking ion is encouraging them to suggest high elves and maghar

this kinda thing has been going on since vanilla. its never a yep, its always a maybe later

They’re literally adding high elf customisation to blood elves. If anyone’s avoiding the issue it’s pretending that what Ion is saying there isn’t the crux of the issue.

Nothing confirmed yet, I’d just urge caution, really. Although brilliant for wowhead to push the issue, ties the devs hands to it a little more.

I’ve been suggesting that myself for I think almost a year.

Seems like the most likely option. I know some pros don’t want it like that and I realize this changes some things folk want out of high elves. But it does make a lot of sense.

If they can wiggle paladin into the void elves that’d help too.

thats why alliance mains who were helfers for 15 years, are dropping like flies, cause he didnt say in that interview - no, we wont be adding high elves to the alliance, rather he said, not right now, maybe later… paraphrased.

i realized after he said it back then that it was likely not gonna happen, but its always been that maybe that kept helfers going

With the current dev team. I’d expect it to never happen, Ion has been good for development of raids and dungeons, I’ll give him that. I’ve had a blast on m+ with my guild lately. But he hasn’t been a story guy, never will be… look at the mess bfa story has been, and shadowlands too could be a serious mess.

Off topic, but I want Filoni and Favreau to take over the reins cause they get it. Filoni understand the heart and the feel of the series.

And then later they decided to add blue eyes to blood elves since they were the already playable high elves, which they even said in interviews after that one (which makes that one rather moot, doubly so for many other reasons.)

Yeah, I don’t think it’s likely with him in charge. Maybe eventually.

I find it amusing they notice the topic tho. Beating around the bush about it for sure… not being direct in this case has done more harm than good imo.

Thing is, the idea likely evolved with time to become the Rendorei, owing to how Blizz was looking to do more stuff with the void in future expansions.

Also, Blizz has had countless idea’s that start in one spot and become something wildly different; originally World of Warcraft wasn’t going to have factions at all and be a more open ended game like EQ or UO, Housing was going to be a thing wherein players could plunk down a small house anywhere they wanted and Necromancers were going to be the first hero class in wrath.

So no, this wasn’t them stringing you along, it was them talking about very early stage ideas with what they were thinking about.

Well, that could be part of a larger overhaul down the road where Blizzard adopts a similar system to what City of Heroes had, which is allowing players to change the color of their spells; or certain effects for certain abilities etc.

If they could make a series of shadow effects for Paladins or other classes, then I’d say sure Shadow Paladin go. But until that happens, the lore is the big stumbling block to such a thing.

But maybe the Kyrian Forsworn will show a different way?

to a helfer that translates as maybe. and that’s been happening since vanilla. ion isnt the only one. some helfers have been hardcore warcraft fans since the rts and wanted playable alliance high elves since those days. this has been a carrot on a stick

Just gimme my Nelf lunar Paladin, and iam pretty much all set for what I really want in This game. Paladin has been the most fun class to play, but absolutely love playing my night elves.
