Why High Elves Don't Work: A Primer (Part 1)

Doesn’t mean it wasn’t the right thing to do. Alleria was the precedent for void elf, to deviate so hard for the sake of Blood elves is and was ridiculous.

There is a big red player tag for those on opposite factions for the distinction.

As I said as well, they could have added in some distinct void elf aesthetics to hair, eyes and so on. That way when you are standing next to a blood elf in an neutral city… you know the two are not the same… should have gone as far to change the idle stance as well.

Faction identity is a thing.

Faction identity matters.

Just because you want it to be ignored for the sake of getting what you want doesn’t mean it should.

Void elves break this when simply talking about models, nightborne do as well.

The void elves even if they had pale skin would still have the void aesthetics. That is something blood elves don’t have, and vise versa.

What I stated above was the problem I have with void elves, not saying they have to change now. It’s a little too late, and I don’t play them anyway.

Simply put, and you yourself admit here that void elves and nightborne use too similar a model and it breaks your idea of faction identity.

Now imagine adding one more elf to the mix, high elf which btw would be using the blood elf model lets be real here… consider the amount of effort and energy it would take on blizzard’s end to make this race ( copy paste like most allied races ) Clearly the intention is blizzard does not desire to add them ever, or they already would have added high elf.

I wish they hadn’t crossed faction lines, however that doesn’t mean they need to just abandon faction identity and make races neutral.

They made void elves blue and they gave Nightborne a different model and stance to minimise the damage. They specifically said they went out of their way to make void elves their own thing.

For some reason they made Nightborne more aesthetically similar to night elves than their Legion model even though that is both lamer and not lore friendly. God knows why. Probably laziness.

Not to mention high elves were literally one of the races mentioned when ARs were announced as one they were looking into, so they obviously decided against it.

I disagree. It’s silly to believe blizzard will add a second blood elf model. Something like this is the likely way to get high elves.

Plus it’s not like blizzard can’t just pull a “forsaken can use the light”

Also the zandalari prelates were not written out. They always said some could still use it.

Not really. Most half elves you’d play are already born. All blizz would need to do is make it clear they can reproduce among themselves just fine.

Void elves make this immensely unlikely as something that will happen.
You can fight for high elves as they are now, but if you’re kicking other opportunities to get them with blizzards design (they were only interested in giving blood elf model by making them blue for instance) then you’re fighting for a lost cause.

Or you’re just fighting for a skin color. Which doesn’t look great.

Yes, it was the right thing to do. Faction identity is important, and maintaining stark distinctions which are immediately obvious is important. Your suggestion is basically blood elves with an aura. This doesn’t mean anything in terms of establishing immediate and noticeable distinction.
Eyes are among the smallest parts of the character and not a thing anyone but the most critical would care. Skin, however, is an immediate distinction. Everything comes afterwards.

What is ridiculous is saying that the faction identity means nothing becauseof a big red tag. You now what also has a big red tag? Everything else that is hostile. So…no…void elves needed to be more distinct than having a tiny difference in hair and eye color.

Meaningless things like stances is stupid as well.
if I had every bloody model stand as a T shape, you’d still know an Orc from a NIght elf.

Yes, but they have already broken the faction identity. I was not really in favor of high elves prior to all of this AR race talk. But not the rule book is gone, void elves and nightborne have destroyed that.

Imo we should have gotten broken in place or void elves. It was much more tangible to the story at the time. But we cannot do anything about it now.

I was pointing out my personal issues with the void elves as they were done, and the possible remedies to the current request. I really don’t think I would play a void elf regardless of their skin tone because I already have the night elves and humans to play my desired race/class combos.

Remember context…

I was simply pointing out my issues with the void elves. Not offering suggesting to fix them in the future. I actually couldn’t care less what they do with them now.

Wow, I’ve seen many, many nuclear takes while involved in this topic but… this is legit impressive. I wish I could give you a medal.

I’ve been seeing this a lot lately and I still fail to see how is suddenly a requirement for the race to look the exact same as their leader.

For the longest time, most of the leaders were just regular player models with sometimes special armor (and in many cases, they didn’t bother to even give them that), but Sylvanas never looked anything like the rest of the Forsaken, Velen always had a model that was different. Nowadays, Anduin has a unique face, same with Lor’themar.

Why exactly is suddenly some sort of requirement that Void elves look exactly like Alleria?

I understand that, my point is the things which determines these differences are often more obvious.
As it stands, we hit the point of no return long ago. Blizzard probably will never do high elves.

Because she’s hot and is Sylvanas before the rotting flesh thing. So you don’t need to feel bad.

<_<

I am making a joke. Read.
This is a joke.

She’s not hot. Now Moira, that’s a hot tamale.

I mean… Where’s the lie though?

The lie? There is no lie only Zul.

Unrelated note, what’s a tamale?

Hispanic version of a dumpling

A tamale is a traditional Mesoamerican dish, from modern-day Mexico, made of masa or dough (starchy, and usually corn-based), which is steamed in a corn husk or banana leaf. The wrapping can either be discarded prior to eating or used as a plate. Tamales can be filled with meats, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, chilies or any preparation according to taste, and both the filling and the cooking liquid may be seasoned.

Which is totally fine, not that I won’t be supportive of it either. But I’d rather blizz spend some quality time here when they upgrade the core races and their customization. Add a few more class race/combos where it makes sense. Possibly update the models where it makes sense… my night elf still has the flat belt surface and it looks… bad

Agreed. I absolutely abhore the allied races. They reek of laziness and money grabbing. The fact they are put behind an exalted grind says quite a bit.

I tried a light forged Draenei… I hated it. The screeching and cheapness that they ripped from the regular Draenei was… undesirable.
