Why High Elves Didn't Work - A Restrospective

I’m not hijacking anything.

Blizzard said they are adding more customization so we can make our characters the way we want them to be, such that we can make a Wildhammer Dwarf out of a Dwarf. If that same intent also applies to Void Elves (and I think it’s fair to assume it does), then would that not mean that Blizzard wants us to be able to make our Alliance High Elf characters out of Void Elves? They certainly seem to be giving us the tools to do so and we haven’t even seen everything yet.

The entire Shadowlands customization overhaul runs contrary to the notion of a single identity for each race and I personally don’t think it’s fair for any race to get pigeonholed into a single identity when everyone else is being given relative carte blanche to be what they want to be.

If it’s ok to call my Dwarf a Wildhammer Dwarf then it’s ok to call my Void Elf a High Elf. :clinking_glasses:

You can roleplay as a High Elf that’s totes fine with me, I don’t care. The second you try to hijack all our lore and try to rename void elves as high elves is where the line is drawn.

How the hell are you still able to post on the forums with that attitude? No Honest Discourse?

You and Hecatone really need to walk up to yourselves. Because you two are showing a lot here within the forums, especially with all that dishonesty.

Void Elves are never going to be renamed (just like Blood Elves are never going to be renamed) and I am not in support of such. You can even find posts of mine denouncing calls for that nonsense.

As to the lore? I’m not interested in hijacking what little Void Elf lore there is. I just want the Void Elf lore expanded. Unlike every other allied race, Void Elves have no backstory beyond their unlock scenario. That means they need more new lore going forward to make up for that.

I want to know more about what’s happening with them on Telogrus. I want additional lore to elaborate on why these High Elf Wayfarers and Silvermoon Scholars are leaving behind the things they knew to join the Ren’dorei. I want additional lore that explains how these new inductees are gaining their abilities and hopefully that will explain why Void Elves now don’t have to look like members of Umbric’s original squad that got zapped by Durzaan’s disrupted ritual.

Honestly it’s hard for me to say I want Void Elf lore expanded when what little we have is so bad and obviously rushed. What I want is for them to be fixed.

I think everyone wants the races, all the races to get more lore and story but it’s unrealistic for people to be expecting this anytime soon for an allied race unless they were already in the works for the next exp.

I agree, but it should be easier with what is essentially a sub race. Void Elves pretty much are Blood Elves after all, they share much of the same story

I think one of the things that’s bothered me about allied races is how the core races and their stories weren’t as fleshed out as I wanted them to be. Now it’s worse to get any story for any race since the writers only have so much they can do and now we have so many races.

But, the same could be said for Alliance high elves and Blood Elves. Much of what differentiates Void Elves from Blood Elves, they have in common with Alliance high elves.

A fact I won’t try to dispute

no I meant what i posted. Blood Elves are High Elves, but not all High Elves are Blood Elves. Originated from High Elves and changed their name to Blood Elves doesn’t change where they came from. They just sided with their own race then friends.

thats a true tempest in a teapot!

still has High Elf origins, just goes by Blood Elf in honor of those who died. name change is only a name change, doesn’t change ones origin.

No it actually does change what they are. They literally stopped being High elves, and became Blood Elves. The race was divided into two seperate groups.

A man who stops being a Republican and becomes a Democrat, can’t still claim he is a Republican just because he was one in the past. Just as a Blood elf is no longer a High elf.

A change in name, change in leadership, change in beleifes, change in allegances AND drinking up fel energy to physically change their apperance. Does infact change who you are.

They formerly were High elves, but are no longer. Now they are Blood Elves. Lor’themar would probably have you locked up for calling him a ‘high elf’ it would be super insulting.

Biologically Blood Elves are High Elves no matter what your headcanon is.

whoa, imagine if you had that life back again, what would you do with it?

High elf isn’t a race. Biologically they are both Elves. but you can’t be “biologically a Democrat” thats not how political views work.

Just like a Gilnean is not a Kul’tiran, just because they are the same race dosen’t mean they are the same thing.

Biologically they are all Thalassian elves. Being a Democrat or Republican doesn’t change that I’m a human. So calling yourself High Elf or Blood Elf or Void Elf does not change that you are a Thalassian/Quel’dorei. It just means you prefer red or blue or chose to be a bro and not a h…umm yeah you know what I mean. Well in other words, you chose to honor your fallen kin or you chose to go play long eared human companion.

And for the gazzillionth time, Belves didn’t ‘drink in Fel’, those that remained on Azeroth were exposed to Fel crystals. Nomming on magical items was a Helf thing.

Edit: That wasn’t a reply Ariadnie, not sure why it did that, I meant to reply to Nicodemus.

Aríadníe and Riallus I would accept that it can actually honestly go either way.

Are Blood Elves differentiated in lore from High Elves?

Absolutely. The Suramar campaign in general makes the differences between High Elves and Blood Elves very clear. They’re referred to differently by both ally and enemy;

Could it be said that Blood Elves are High Elves?

Absolutely, they encompass what High Elves have been and literally live in Quel’thelas (literally High Home). The culture is mostly the same as it was but the people are exactly who they still were.

By the same extension you’d be hard pressed to not consider a Void Elf a High Elf either.

Aríadníe you’re right in that they wouldn’t self-refer to themselves as Quel’Dorei however it’s subjective on whether than changes who they are as a people.
