🚫 Why High Elves are a bad idea

Yes, actually it has a slight red tint to it. Where the high elf of the alliance would probably have more pale or even a blue to it.
Can be a subtle difference and would make so many players happy.

Does the palest of Blood Elf skin look similar to the average High Elf skin tone? Yes.

Do High Elves have the amount of red in their skin tones that the average Blood Elf does? Absolutely not.

You’re using the false equivalency fallacy. You want to claim that because some Blood Elves have very fair skin, like High Elves, that all Blood Elves have skin like High Elves.

You are missing something. The way they see the use of arcane magic it’s pretty different too, high elfs didn’t want to suck magic from any sources, even when some HE did it at Outland, but that was an exception.
That was a big break inside this society, and show us two opposite mindset about something that is a key factor among the thalasian elfs: the use of magic.

The skin tone used by High Elf NPCs in-game is exactly the same as the palest option available to blood elves.

Incorrect.

The only noted mention of a dislike to mana draining is on living things. This is what caused the divide among the bloodelves (with some leaving and calling themselves Highelves afterwards…). Before that, in order to survive their withdrawal, they would feed on Mana.

Vereesa and her ilk were welcomed into Dalaran by Rhonin (seeing as how she was married to him…), and Dalaran is filled with arcane power and a heavy supply of it.

The -only- mention of a disdain to magic in itself is the highvale highelves, and even they have questionable aspects.

Learn the lore. Do not try to subvert it to satisfy your argument.

A different mindset does NOT define a new race…, else we’d have a WHOLE lot more Orc races out there.

They are in every way, shape and form, the same race and people, merely having a civil divide. Vereesa, Alleria, Auric and more have already stated how they are still the people of Silvermoon.

That dislike you mentioned for sucking magic from living creatures it’s true, but as you can see is not the whole true. It just says alternative sources, that means any kind of alternative sources, since living creatures to a simple mana crystal.

It’s funny how you tried to look smart and sophisticated, and at the end you fall in the same error you tried to warn.

Look, Drougen, we’ve been through this. This is what we call ‘Betrayal to your faction’ by saying we Blood Elves would welcome a bunch of Alliance-lovers with their blue eyes. Because you and I both know I’d KOS any blue eyed elves ever since the whole mess in MoP

Now, me and Sylvannas have had our differences, but both her and I agree on, there’s a nice, cozy, Reconditioning Room all prepared just for you. Don’t worry about the various alchemists in there ready to test fun and wonderful chemicals on you! Its all safe and will not reduce you to a blind servant of Sylvannas’ will. Maybe.

The quote you are using is from the Warcraft encyclopedia released and never updated since 2006. It is heavily noted that the Encyclopedia is not only outdated but contains information that may now be considered false as the storyline has gone on, for example, Veressa and the Silver covenant appeared later on as a force in Dalaran, one of thee most magically infused cities. Funny enough, after the merge from Wowpedia to gampedia, this specific article somehow gained prominence (Shocking…).

The article makes no mention of later events, such as Highelves asking for the acquisition of magical artifacts to satisfy their addiction, or how in Shadows of the sun it is stated how Highelves feel the Sunwell restored and they no longer need ‘help’ to cope with the addiction.

That all aside, the feeding lasting for 1 in-game year and is not even a point worth bringing up for debate, simply for the following reason:

Following the restoration of the Sunwell, the draining of arcane magic is no longer needed. The blood elves are instead urged by their leadership to turn to the Sunwell to sate their addiction in a more healthy and more harmonious manner

Some lovely other quotes to bring up:

Blood elves are, biologically and physiologically, high elves.

Though the sin’dorei style themselves as having been “reborn” from the ashes of the shattered quel’dorei, in biological essence the two groups belong to the same race.

As a people, the high elves are all but extinct: the remnants of the remnants of a fallen race. Though without any official leader, Vereesa Windrunner leads one of the few organized high elf collaborations, the Silver Covenant, as its self-styled Ranger General.

I think that is strange how the vast majority of people opposing High Elves didn’t even play the faction that they are meant to be playable, it would be like Alliance players advocating against Mok’nathal because Ma’ghar already exist. The High Elves already exist in the Alliance, making them playable isn’t deviating from what was already established, they have NPCs, named characters and played key roles in the Alliance storyline, having High Elf adventurers taking quests and wandering Azeroth isn’t supposed to affect Horde players, at least you should be thankful because you can kill them in PvP.

“Meant to be playable on”, Helfer mentality at its finest.

Not even remotely the same idea.

Many outliers of races are seen assisting the other faction or opposed to the faction their race is part of. It is politics, it happens.

That does not give any substance nor reasoning to make them playable as a ‘new race’.

While High Elves were never a good idea, Void Elves…

Void Elves invalidate the concept of validation. Imagine if suddenly Magic was discovered to be real. Now, literally everything in the universe can be explained with some variant of “a wizard did it.”

Void Elves do that to all arguments of what is and isn’t a viable choice for a race.

We don’t need another form of Tauren, so forget the Taunka and Yangoul? Void Elves exist.
Naga have no legs? Yeah, well, Void Elves are a thing.
Vrykul are too tall? Void Elves happened.
Playable Eredar is a pants-on-head stupid idea? So are Void Elves.

You can write a well thought out, thorough, proofread, edited, and widely acclaimed thesis the length of War and Peace on why High Elves are bad, and all that has to be done to counter it is point to the nearest Void Elf.

At this point, sense is dead, logic’s embalmed, and the throne of reason lies empty and forgotten. All things are possible, there are no limits, and even the mightiest castle of argument is built on a foundation of purple voidy swampland now.

Not to say stop talking. By all means, go ahead - make your case, lay out your arguments, debate to your heart’s content. That’s what these forums are for. But at the end of the day, there’s an entire playable race’s worth of proof that any race, existing, well defined, utterly insane or not, can be made playable at any time depending on what’s in the water supply at Irvine at any given moment.

What i have to enjoy? your headcanon? Warcraft Encyclopedia is a canon source, like it or not, and you just drop some theories that are complete irrelevant compared to a Blizzard Real Canon Source. Until a new canon source from Blizzard tell something diferent, the true it’s what i already quoted.
