I can do what you have said, like doing damage,explosives or other things. I can do that and I have done that. The point is, that wasn’t what I am enjoying about.
I normally do above over 20K dps and good healings with disc but I found that didn’t amuse me more than just enjoying shielding.
I’m not getting you or not getting you, I don’t know who you are. When we close the browser, neither of us are going to exist to the other person. What I’m doing is answering your question “why do healers have to deal damage” in other words “why are healers expected to deal damage?” The answer is very simple. Other healers are dealing damage and keeping the group alive so when people look at you doing 0 damage and keeping the group alive, they’re going to wonder why you are doing less.
It’s not about what you enjoy. It’s about that is what the community is doing so you either keep up or you don’t.

Thats because other people are doing more so they should be thankful for that rather than flaming others who just finished their duty
If A does more than B, B does less than A. That’s just how it is. And A will be sought out in groups for M+ because the entire game mode is designed around doing more.

I am convinced that all of the “healers doing damage” posts are troll posts. Nobody is out there arguing over this stuff in game. It’s just some insane forum rambling, probably by 2 or 3 people using sock puppets.

lol there’s a number of things here to point out.
First, the reason why they made it this way was probably the FF14 players going nuts over healers being able to dps in that game or something. They just copied that game I guess. No more of Wow originality where healers heal and relax. They don’t get to have the easy job anymore. The ones who complained about this left or swapped roles. The ones that are still playing as Healers are the majority of those who like to DPS as healers and get super sweaty - wanting to constantly be doing something instead of just healing. So its probably going to remain this way.
Second, that’s PUGs for you. Most of them are crappy as far as personalities go. Very rarely have I seen someone super polite. I just got out of a run on my alt. where they didn’t know what the heck they were doing but I spent an hour with the 4 man premade explaining and helping them out anyway. And they were thankful. Spoke about people quitting usually before the first boss! My point is, people like me are an anomaly. Most people have 0 patience in PUG’s and don’t care about anyone else.
Third, if people flame you. You can either ignore it. Or talk smack back. Pick on their DPS, pick on their gear. Pick on whatever. Don’t feel bad, really want to talk **** there’s 100’s of things to pick on about people. Also, the classic response here would have been to link the damage taken. If they’re constantly being healed by you and you’re saying that you managed to keep them alive as in they’re taking damage then yeah, you should have told them off on that.
Lastly, in high keys. Yeah, you definitely need to do explosives. Your friends have spoiled you and quite frankly, I am envious of you because they didn’t even open their mouths to tell you to do Orbs which says a lot about them. Those are awesome friends. Honestly, if my healer is healing a ton of damage and I can see that he has catching up to do, I auto swap to orbs but normally, healers should do the orbs. Esp. in high keys it really is important.
You don’t have to DPS if you don’t want to. If we don’t time a key, I don’t look at the healers DPS and go. Yeah, this dude did 5K instead of doing 20K and that’s the reason why! I just consider our DPS as being inept. I did notice that a lot of people try to min/max and blame healers for stuff, I don’t do it. What was the overall DPS of those players and what key was it?

I do want to show you that exists…
You can heal without Atonement, you just give up around 30-40% of your total healing. Most of that being group healing. It’s the equivalent of tying one arm behind your back while running the dungeon. But people have cleared +27 keys without any healer at all, so it’s definitely possible to heal a +22 NO without using a third of your spec.

nah i have done 35.8k total healing in that run.
The atonement is lacking but other abilities filled that hole
its possible but like i said i think he’s making it up
its making your group work overtime so you can ignore a good chunk of your kit
