Pretty sure if you showed me today’s graphics 20 years ago when I was hyped about vanilla release it would have blown my mind, not made me upset.
The story still has dark moments, we still have dark zones. We just came out of boring drab Gray coloured shadow lands with the most bland zone in the maw. No one really liked it though lol.
Df is just bright and colourful because it’s a fertile land and one of the main characters is like the aspect of life or whatever.
Heck, mop had some of the darkest writing and loads of people still called it a child’s game. I’m beginning to think the people who complain the most about “Disney” just hit skip on everything and hate positive interactions
Warcraft has never been a dark medieval fantasy, you’re probably thinking of Warhammer. Warcraft has always had a fluffy aesthetic. I mean, just look at the rattling skull you get from being feared. That has been around since Vanilla and is as Disney as anything. The original collectors edition literally come with a panda pet as one of the options - fluffy aesthetic.
Yep a giant dung beetle and a floaty skeleton head were sure as shootin dark and scary! Come on, who is playing WoW to be genuinely scared? This isn’t Amnesia.
I do miss when things looked less painterly, but this game looks 500% more polished than vanilla. I’ll always complain there needs to be better lighting. Why does no one have a shadow in a cutscene in DF, it’s driving me bonkers
i think both classic n retail look nice. just retail is super cartoony near disney levels which isnt too bad but just not really what i’d push for wow.
the way the world is now blizz is probably scared of upsetting someone and getting taken to court.
… as an example my once fearsome frost death knight now throws snowballs at foes via chill streak
Honestly, thinking about it, I don’t think anything ever scared me in WoW as a child. Granted I wasn’t going to any raids and only a few dungeons. I loved Wailing Caverns. The only significance WoW has had on my perception of the world as a child is I can’t look at orchids without seeing a “face” because of the lashers.
You’re playing a game that has always had a childish, cartoony art style and are talking about how dark and scary it once was?
The game has always looked like it was designed for children and the graphics have undoubtedly improved tremendously since launch. This post is just wrong across the board.
