Why Gear Up

So the question is simple. Let’s say that I don’t raid, or do Mythic+. My current focus is farming world quests and gearing up to make the process of farming reputation to unlock Zandalari quicker.

However, I had a bit of an idea. I was somewhere around 345 ilvl, and I went to do a quick WQ that was nearby while waiting on a dungeon que. I noticed the enemies had 50k hp. That might not seem like a lot, but it adds up when you’re fighting multiple mobs over and over again, and sooner or later it’s taking you a good while just to get through them to get to the WQ objective. But regardless, I thought I’d keep an eye on their hp, because it seemed a bit high.

But I figure, whatever, I’ll just keep gearing up, after all, gear makes you stronger right?

Except now I’m upwards of 360 ilvl on the character I’ve been playing… and I went to those same exact NPCs, and sure enough, their hp is now somewhere around 10k higher.

So as I get stronger, so do the enemies I fight. This means, I don’t actually get stronger. The numbers I do go up, but the numbers I NEED to do also go up.

WHAT IS THE POINT OF GETTING BETTER GEAR THEN?!

The point of getting better gear is to be able to do harder and harder content.
I hate to break it to you but the open world content is not the main focus of the game right now.

There is item level scaling in bfa content. Your ilevel goes up, so does their hp, as you noticed. However, your damage scales faster than their hp. So gearing up does have a “point”.

I use an add-on called World Quests Tracker, which allows me to find groups for wqs very fast and even just getting 1 extra warm body helps breeze through so the content.

Between that, and getting 370 and 400 items off Warfronts you should be able to get into the 385 range from emissaries.
