Currently FFXIV has been chipping away at WoWs player base. Some have been claimning thaty FFXIV is now the new king of MMORPGs. However I know it will never be King for while it’s PVE and PVP content may rival or even surpass WoW the truth is as soon as somthing better comes out those people will leave for that. No what Truley matter is the RP community.
This is because RPers are the ones who will stick around in fact the reason Everquest is still alive today is because of RP.
However while WoW has an healthy rp community FFXIV has a toxic community at best, nonexistent at worse. And without an RP community FFXIV playerbase will remain Volatile.
So until FFXIV can gather an RP community that can rival that of WoW then they will never be king for no king can rule from a castle built of cards.
It’s hard to argue with someone who hasn’t actually played, it sorta becomes a bit of a waste of time.
But I will say it’s been around a decent amount of time and continues to grow, where as WoW is not.

I don’t think it matters if any game is “king”. Most people don’t care.

It all depends on the person. I can’t recommend FF XIV to someone who doesn’t like story based MMOs. However I also can’t recommend anyone to WoW due to the many issues that have been vocalized.
Both are good games. However I still think FF XIV is the superior MMO based on what I like. It may not be the case with some people, but damn Endwalker got me more hyped than anything blizzard has done lately. I can’t wait for it to come out.

I really don’t care if it becomes king or not. From viewing screen shots and watching my kid play, I have no interest in that game.
I’ll keep playing WoW until LightForge releases their new MMO. I think they have a real shot and my interest is peaked. I remember when a bunch of devs jumped ship from EverQuest to work on a new MMO. That worked out really well. I would like to see them repeat that.

I may have not played FFXIV but I have friends who have and I am not denying FFXIV is growing the issue arises is if when the next big MMORPG comes out will FFXIV retain it’s playerbase which, without a solid RP community I seriously doubt.
From what I’m hearing there is a solid RP community, just no dedicated RP servers.
At least there weren’t any when I played last. Don’t need a dedicated server to RP.

I think your point is valid, but far less impactful than you claim. The ratio of RP to non RP servers is likely all the evidence needed to back this claim up.
Well it is more like the Environment is perfect for rp but the community either keeps to itself in guilds and cliques or basically amounts to Moon Guard Goldshire.
So thee is room for a community to grow but neither the GMs nor the playerbase has any desire to cultivate it.
14s and WoW’s RP communities are not any different from eachother. Still the same toxic jerks and cliquey groups, same groomers and weirdos and what-not. It’s like comparing an oak to a redwood but in the end they are still trees.
But also still the same great people and amazing writers and friends that you have the possibility to make
Neither are better nor worse than the other, save for perhaps populations.
Still one tree makes higher quality lumber than the other. Your right the WoW RP communiyt has its ups and downs but compared to FFXIV the Ups Outnumber the Downs
You may think so, but honestly, given the amount of garbage I have to sift through about what happens in this community and FFXIV’s community…to me, there is no difference of ups and downs. And I have seen nothing of this community to suggest it’s of any higher or lower quality.

Well the only real place where most of the bad roleplay is is in one town …in one sever …in FFXIV no matter which town you go to you will find characters well engaging in Moon Guard Goldshire Activity.
I think you are severely uninformed about what happens where, but you’re allowed your opinions. This isn’t much of a discussion worth having in anycase.
If you’re of the opinion that for some reason one is just better than the other completely more power to you and I hope you continue to enjoy your experiences, here.

Do not take my word for it.
I am not the only one who thinks this.
And yet roleplaying throughout WoW has that one town on one server held against it.
Not particularly. Even if you did (which you don’t), it’s not done in any public channels. Because doing that in public channels (or posting groups even hinting at it) will get you silenced, suspended, or banned.
Lo and behold, you can find people with a bone to pick regarding FFXIV that may or may not be speaking the truth. Congratulations?

Go look on youtube there are videos that show the kind of rp that exists in FFXIV.
Are you just arguing to argue, or did you actually completely gloss over what I said?

You’re trying to convince us that that RP doesn’t exist in WoW?
Because that’s all the RP I ever see.
Which is my point. Most RP isn’t open. Because of people like that.

So you haven’t played it confirmed?
It makes your opinion just that, an opinion. It’s baseless and fictional.
There is a thriving RP community across multiple datacenters there, just FYI. But RPers do not and never have made a modern MMO popular, they have contributed for sure, but not made it.
If it wasn’t the case, then why are there only two active RP servers in WoW now? And a good chunk of the people on them do not RP, yet there are still more players in WoW?
