Why Feral DPS Needs a Buff in Cataclysm

Considering that retail and Cataclysm are built on the same systems, they could implement these changes; they simply choose not to.

PvP is often considered an afterthought; however, just because a class excels in PvP does not mean it should be disadvantaged in PvE. Ferals possess a great deal of utility in PvP, contributing to their strength, but this utility is not as applicable in PvE content.

But you still haven’t answered why…

Why do you care?
Why does it matter if you parse 99 regardless what rank feral is?
What’s more appealing killing a boss and getting loot or Pretending like anyone cares about you on the damage meter?

You don’t get to kill the boss and get loot at all if your dps is so meme that don’t get invited to the raid in the first place. Which is where kitty is currently at.

Honestly, Feral’s not “That bad” in terms of damage. I mean, sure it’s pretty low on the meters, but those charts are measuring the top 1%.

I mean, My Feral off spec is only about 350 ish ilvl, with a 316 ilvl weapon, I don’t bear weave, and I’m still holding 15+k on the raid dummy. No enchants either. If I fully decked out my Feral set with enchants and a better weapon, along with the full 4 piece set, I would probably be pulling close to 20k single Target which isn’t bad. Is it gonna top the charts? Probably not, but it’s still “okay” damage. The difference between classes is only a few thousand dps anyways. It’s not that bad.

Target dummy is only used to practice this will not be your damage done on a real boss dealing with mechanics.

Feral do not use 4pc

Look at magmaw the difference between the top fire mage and top Feral.
Top Fire mage did 68,640 DPS
Top Feral did 45,515
That is a difference of 23,125 DPS that isnt a few thousand!!!

Then for Artimedias

Fire mage did 60,029 DPS
Feral did 46,494 DPS
difference is 13,535

Council
Fire mage did 41,157
Feral did 30,322
Difference of 10,835

My favorite is
ODS
Fire mage - 316,638 DPS
Feral - 65,894 DPS
Difference is 250,744

You’re getting loot.

They gonna disenchant the leather gear instead rofl?

They must be invited to the raid; otherwise, they cannot obtain loot—it’s quite straightforward.

One of the fights you linked are cleave, and Atramedes is punishing for Melee. You can’t melee him half the fight. Besides, you’re using Fire Mage as an example, when most of the fights they use Combustion on multiple targets. In a straight, even fight, the difference isn’t “that” high. Yes, it’s going to be a pretty big difference, but that’s because you’re taking Feral, which is at the bottom, and comparing it to the top. Fire Mage is a huge outlier as it’s dps is kind of busted. If anything, Fire should get a nerf and they should give a small blanket buff to the weaker classes.

My guy is comparing stuff to the outlier and not the average lmfao.

Dude will be disingenuous as much as he can or lie as much as he can to try to prove his point.

Feral isn’t getting any buffs.

It’s not my fault that the fire mage is dealing top damage while the feral druid is at the bottom; you were the one who mentioned it.

When comparing the top DPS to the top DPS of feral, follow these steps:

  1. Subtract the #1 feral damage from the #1 Damage/DPS to get (xxxxx).
  2. Add up all the differences.
  3. Divide that total by 13.

e]The average difference between the TOP damage and Top feral damage is 48,691 that is not within

A few typically equals three, so if you’re suggesting that ‘feral’ is within 3,000 DPS, that’s not accurate. The last time I checked, a difference of 48,691 is far from 3,000; in fact, it’s exactly 45,691.

You’re wasting energy on the wrong thing.

You would get much better results trying to improve your play.

You’re a 20th percentile player and you would get better results trying to perform your role as a DPS better than you would by getting a buff

Blizzard isn’t going to waste time on feral, this is going to always be unproductive, you should be trying to be productive by learning how to actually play feral.

Atramedes has an air phase where a mage is going to keep doing dps while the feral has to wait for the boss to come back down.

Council is a 2 target cleave fight and feral is notoriously bad at low target cleave because you can’t reasonably maintain full debuffs on 2 targets especially while moving.

And Defense system has a mage getting a massive stacking % haste increase until they’re effectively instant casting their entire kit while trying to stand in the % damage increase circle that the feral probably can’t stand in anywhere near as long… these are so disingenuous it’s unreal.

On chimaeron, probably the fairest boss for comparing dps, feral is 7k behind the highest performing spec, which is demo lock at 39k. And even that is somewhat unfair to feral due to the hit % debuff affecting melee worse than casters.

If you took all the time in your life you’ve wasted crying on the forums for a feral buff, and put it towards being good at feral, you’d probably be one of the best ferals in the world. And you’d smash every other dps you ever raided with.

Honestly with how strong Feral is in PVP, they might need another damage nerf

It is stated that feral DPS is within a few thousand points of other classes. Therefore, to calculate this, one should take the highest damage from any class and subtract the highest feral damage to determine the average. This basic calculation should be done regardless of the fight to obtain an average.

Claiming that ‘feral’ excels in PvP does not necessarily translate to its effectiveness in PvE in terms of damage. Feral’s strength in PvP lies in its comprehensive utility, not solely in the damage output.

That comprehensive utility is always why it shouldn’t be competing for #1 dps. Glad we’re coming to an understanding.

That’s AoE, bud. That’s not a very fair comparison. I’m talking Single target. On most fights, the difference isn’t very big. I mean what? 7k difference? You’re trying to compare one of the strongest AoE specs in the game with a broken OP cooldown (Combustion) against a spec that doesn’t do amazing in cleave or AoE. You need to look at how the specs are designed and what they’re meant to do, not at comparing apples to oranges.

Feral’s niche has almost always been single target damage with bleeds and burst (depending on the expansion) and it’s usually middle of the pack or lower in DPS.

I’m not even disagreeing with you. Feral does need a buff, but the thing is, so do many specs. I wanted to start off this expansion playing Frost Mage, but it has so many mana issues and has no AoE damage what so ever, on top of practically no scaling on it’s abilities. It got the short end of the stick too. But some things we just have to live with. It’s not like it’s not viable, it’s just low DPS compared to the top.

interesting thread. new to feral. is there a guide for bearweaving in pve somewhere? i saw a wotlk video about snakeweaving and idolweaving. is those things in cata?

Right but mage has the option to just go fire and be top DPS feral does not have the option.

It’s intriguing to observe that when faced with average results, there’s a tendency to retreat and attribute blame to various factors. In no encounter does Feral come within a few thousand DPS; the narrowest margin is with Nef at 7,222, which exceeds 3,000 DPS and is more than double the amount of “a few.”

Druid has the option to go Boomy and put out decent numbers. Will it beat Fire Mage or Demo Lock? No. But it will be able to put out solid numbers.
