Why even do these Cata and on?

According to some responses on these forums about keeping Wrath a perm seaprate server. Saying its not forcing you to move on from Wrath.
The same can be said for retail. we don’t need cata or any other classic version of retail. They have all expansions already. Cata is and known as the start of retail wow.

So honestly we will be paying a sub for 2 retail wow versions.

Cata is way different than Draonflight. Way, wayyyyyy different. We’re talking 6 expansions and 10+ years of changes. You cannot compare. People who enjoy Cata arent getting that satisfaction from DF, so the Cata Classic is for those people who prefer that specific moment in time. Im all for it, i love Cata. But its extremely disingenuous to compare it to DF.

Correct I’ve not upgraded to DF nor will I. Just doesn’t interest me. I think that the Cata, Mist and Warlords of Draenor have the best game play content which I was able to play in the past and thoroughly enjoyed it… But once they went to battle for azeroth… it lost me again…

yeah I never compared CATA to DF lol. Said CATA is not classic wow.
YEPPERS I said it

Agreed. There are 3 distinct “eras” of World of Warcraft that stick out in my mind.

Vanilla/TBC/Wotlk

Cata/MoP/WoD

Legion/BFA/Shadowlands/Dragonflight

They all have a very different feel.

You called it “retail”. Retail = Dragonflight.

AH I did. because CATA was the start of retail. you are right.
SOO should be separated by a permanent Wrath server. Leave wrath as classic for us classic subbers.

Everyone has to realize that Blizzard is actually rewriting world of warcraft using the “classic” name tag or term. There’s actually a few things in the first three (Vanilla/TBC/Wotlk) that were never there when the game first came out. So it’s already changing or changed from the current version.

Tbc was the start of retail. They have horde pallys and ally shaman and started the homogenization of class balance.

Stop being a snowflake and thinking only your favorite expansion was special. They are all retail lite.

Im all for permanent era servers for all individual expansions. But to call it “the start of retail” is completely ridiculous. You could say the same thing about TBC with that logic.

Cata is a lot closer to wotlk than it is to Dragonflight, or any of the 4 latest expansions. Legion redesigned everything… the game was changed far more than any expansions prior.

I take it you havent been playing pservers and thus haven’t touched cata for over a decade, so it makes sense that your memory is so fuzzy on this matter. I think you’re vastly overestimating how different cata will be. To call it " the start of retail" is no more asinine than calling your beloved wotlk the start of retail. Hold your opinion until you actually try cata classic, or log onto a 4.3.4 pserver to see for yourself.

You’ve said things a I wash I thought of myself but didn’t have the nerve to post them.

From personal experience I did play vanilla and on till legion actually myself. I remember it as Wrath that was the best time and still is the best time I have had Playing wow. like everyone else at the time the hype for cata was huge. Was a big let down and a lot of players like myself remember this. This is why Cata was known as retail wow every since cause it spiraled to the crap it is today. Only good thing that came out of cata was Sandstone Drake.

Its only “known as” this among the most simple minded of the playerbase. Don’t drink the koolaid. Cata has aged exceptionally well over the past 10+ years and is considered a cherished expansion in the pserver scene, just like Wotlk is. I hope you get your perma wrath era server but I also hope you realize how foolish you were once cata classic launches and you see for yourself.

Well I want the Koolaid you been drinking for sure. Playing a pserver cata for 10years. Thing about Pservers is they Polish what blizzard did not. So you might be let down being use to a polished game.
